Re: Season 2020
I think the proposed cup/conference system is a sensible way to play some football in a hugely disrupted year. It strikes the right balance between being practical, achievable with the constraints and engaginf for players. It also reduces risk of spreading virus if there is a second wave in mid wint...

Re: Season 2020
Not a bad suggestion but I reckon you will be pushing it for time - you will need at least 2 weeks for some kind of preseason/conditioning putting you back at 15-16 weeks total duration for pitches and the like and I think Sept 20- 30 will be a hard deadline for pitches.

Re: Season 2020
I dont think its accurate to suggest people wouldn't play if there is no promotion/relegation. I think they are desperate to get out of the house and be active as well as socialise. A 9 game season that awards a title but doesn't promote/relegate probably strikes a balance between keeping players en...

Re: Season 2020
9 games, may as well not bother at all. Player does a hammy and misses half a season or more. Forget cricket requirements - you can use alternative pitches if and when needed. A season of flexible arrangements surely wont be scoffed at. Summer comps generally 7 games - great fun 9 games plus finals...

Re: Season 2020
I agree that a full 18 game league season should be the objective...but I don't think that's realistic for several reasons: - we are unlikely to be able to kick a ball in large enough groups to train (let alone play) before June 1 (at best) based on NRL plans for NSW community sport - which are the ...

Re: Season 2020
I like the idea of playing 9 league games and playing everyone once. However I think there should be no promotion or relegation under such a circumstance - H & A is the only fair way to determine these things. The 9 game league season would purely be for the purpose of giving players and Clubs t...

Re: Is SAASL a shambles
Be careful what you wish for! The SAASL has plenty of problems and all fooball should be under one body, but the FFSA aren't that much better (if at all). On the issue of brawls, referee physical abuse etc the SAASL need to grow a pair and start banning players/Club officials etc for years/life and/...

Re: Time for 3 Divs of 12 on Saturday?
All valid points to an extent, but outweighed by the reality that there will be fewer clubs on Saturday (in the absence of an FFSA SAASL merger), necessitating fewer leagues with more teams per league.

Re: Time for 3 Divs of 12 on Saturday?
People want to play. I'm personally not fussed if a few cup games are at neutral venues. Anyway like you say GIAE in regards to playing league games after the season, we are amateurs - ie what does it matter where/when we play...every team always has unavailability most weeks and coaches tinker as a...

Re: Time for 3 Divs of 12 on Saturday?
You can still have 2 or 3 pre season friendlies before 2 or 3 cup fixtures without increasing pre season. Players tend to lose interest in my experience if there's too many pre season weeks without games. I dare say most coaches only tinker for 2 or 3 games. Thereafter you probably want a couple of ...

Re: Time for 3 Divs of 12 on Saturday?
Play early 2 -3 rounds of the cup in pre season. Use neutral venues like Grange when others aren't available in preseason - this will actually make pre season games more meaningful too. Then play the round of 16/qtr/semi mid week at neutral venues under lights. Use the current week off and 3 cup wee...

Re: Time for 3 Divs of 12 on Saturday?
Absolutely agree - 3 teams of 12 makes perfect sense. With stretched facilities, volunteers this would also go some way to funnelling new players to existing clubs - more c grades etc and ultimately, more teams playing on the same day at same venues as C grades follow A and B grades.

Re: catch up games?
Pretty poor outcome if true. Lack of leadership from the saasl on this one. All league results should be final by 5pm on the last Saturday so titles, promotion, relegation are determined at that point (barring any final match day postponements). They've had at least 5-6 weeks to get these games play...

Re: Cup Round 6th July div 4/5 collegiate ?
Hi All - Sorry I'm a bit late to the thread. I don't read up on this forum often. As a coach of a WCL team for the last couple of seasons, and a committee member who helped establish the team, I'm in a good position to provide some commentary around the league and a rebuttal to some of the more misg...

Re: Answers please?
Quick question - shouldn't giving up and conceding over 20 goals in the last 20 minutes of the game still against the spirit of the rules? Isn't that what melb were found guilty of in the afl? They didn't 'tank' or basically preareange to lose, but rather didn't try to win....ended up in heavy sancti...

Re: Polonia - Blue Nile abandoned Div 4
Nice post Dash - good to hear the FFSA are taking action against the individuals. While I agree the problems are caused by stupid individuals, it does always seem to be the same clubs. I think if you compared all the clubs that cause the problems they probably have poor management structures in plac...

Ps refer page 17 LOTG, law 3 number of players - other matches. Talks about "greater number of substitutes may be used provided: 1. Teams concerned reach agreement and 2. Referee is informed before the match." I assume that given the SAASL is not an official comp organized under the auspic...

Re: SAASL offer to FFSA State League clubs
The whole corporate governance of football in this state is a joke. The email from the saasl was an embarrassing example of a poor autocratic decision and further highlight s why the saasl needs a complete management overhau l. Unfortunately the ffsa have shown they aren't much better. Carter needs ...

Re: SAASL offer to FFSA State League clubs
Wow - interesting times ahead. What happens if Nab for example get automatic entry to Div 1 say, but then all or the majority of players leave because of the move to saasl which I would think was Likely. Once these club's are gone from ffsa, there are no guarantees of their playing lists, so assumin...

Studs up
I'm wanting to clarify- double footed challenges where the studs are showing should automatically attract a red card shouldn't they? Our first team has had the same referee twice in the saasl where In both games he's acknowledged the studs were showing and the two feet, however he has only given a y...
