Re: Junior Players going abroad

Great talent, also apparently an excellent tennis player. The father wasn't too interested in development programs over here as he always wanted John to tryout in England. Only weak point was a bit of inconsistency, some incredible games and some others not quite so good (maybe improved this aspect,...

Re: Speed Endurance Training

Try 20 m sprints with 2 x 10m segments. i.e. 10 m sprint in one direction, pass off the ball and sprint in an other direction and shoot (which involves slowing down, ball skills and change of pace) Allow recovery time growing from 45 seconds up to 2 minutes in between sets of maybe 5 x 5 hope it helps

There are some very very talented and promising players in this list, let's hope they have a good time with the Academy, I think the future looks good for SA.

Re: what ever happened to Amadeo Cataldi ?

Amadeo is in Italy, you are right Bill and he thanks sgt peppers (lonely hearts club band) and jameswall31 for their kind words, they really mean a lot. He is currently under contract at AC Milan for the remainder of the season, achieved Uefa B Licence (also hopes for world peace) and misses Adelaid...

Re: Bid team stunned by World Cup snub

It would be marvellous if the 2022 WC was in Australia but I really wouldn't count on it too much, the market is way too small and not that expandable.

Hope I am wrong...actually, no, another one in Europe would be nice.

Re: Do junior teams need a "Sweeper"

Ok, I will try and explain it better. Point 1 - It does not happen to many coaches to coach kids that will become professional, the odds are extremely low, and so are the odds of players becoming professional. Point 2 - If junior football should not focus on result, putting a sweeper means you are t...

Re: Do junior teams need a "Sweeper"

Question: if we are considering a 1-4-3-3, isn't the goalkeeper the sweeper, so to speak with, I would think, a flat back four? Italian coaching for youth tends to prefer a flat 4 at the back and zonal defending, to encourage more involvement in team game by the players etc. IMO, a sweeper is not t...

Re: Lippi is scum.

Maybe calling Lippi scum is a bit excessive, though many people have been questioning his selections. Lippi is in favour of forming a strong unit and group rather than call the "on-form" players of the moment. The National side is not a "hit parade" for him. Every Italian goes nu...

Re: Small Sided Football in 2009

Megabonus is absolutely correct in the description of the direction Italy is heading towards. Futsal is what friends play in the evenings, regarding the development within the FIGC clubs small sided games, or modified games, are at the basis of technical work nowadays. The Piccoli Amici category is ...

More important to teach Gks to play the ball quickly, well and to defenders or wide midfielders to build from the back, I remember though suggesting coaches not to have keepers booting the ball....didn't go down well.

Re: Real v Juve for Hamsik

Hamsik has been really performing this year, with all respect to Napoli but I hope he signs for Juve for his sake, the current Napoli with the current squad and coach are not going to give De Laurentiis the spectacular football he wants.
Would also be nice to see Lavezzi move on, brilliant player.

Re: Milan want Beck for good

I think the goal has prompted media and all to say how well he has been performing. I think it is a slight overstatement, he has been doing ok, his attitude is excellent and his condition is not too bad, all considered but hardly a match winner for us. Milan are not going to make a mint with Beckham...

Re: Roar dominate in Matildas squad

VB is a striker, she has a very rare sense of where the goal is never scared to finish. She also likes to participate in build up, technically she is good and has a very decent vision of the game, so ultimately she should play support striker dropping back to lay the ball off and open spaces and get...

Re: Transfer Flop Of The Season So Far!

Sheva is trying hard, I think he figured out no team mate has time for him so he started upping the work rate and is looking sharper. I will personally "forgive" him if he scores 15 goals this season but I have a feeling he might start the year well, injuries seem to be handing him an almo...

Re: Can Australia compete when it comes to Developing Football?

I think football coaching in Australia isn't bad at all and I really have never seen anyone coaching "shoving off the ball". Football is a game that can be successful only when it represents your true culture and heritage so, if anything, Australia should believe much more in it's own cult...
