Re: Congratulations City

Wasn't aware of Abrahmovic doing that. More the exception than the norm.

Try telling Portsmouth fans that there's nothing wrong with the system as it currently stands.

Re: Congratulations City

It's not that simple, Cyril. Look at what happened to West Ham or Portsmouth. The owner comes in, wants to splash the cash, and signs all these players on massively inflated contracts. That's great! But, then the owners businesses start to fail, economic conditions worsen, and the owner is now bankr...

Re: Congratulations City

Financial Fair Play will be good, in fact, we're starting to see the impacts of it. The big billionaires are actually improving clubs, along with spending big cash on players. Hopefully we will see more Man City's, and less Portsmouths. Look at Chelsea before FFP, they were just looking to spend big...

Re: English FA Cup Losing its magic?

Ask yourself why the FA Cup is shown in so many countries and why it is so popular? Because it involves the most popular teams in the world. The same reason why the English Premier League is the most popular league in the world. It expanded and exported itself before any other European league. Or, ...

Re: English FA Cup Losing its magic?

The fact that so many countries show the FA Cup and so few shows the frog cup is all I need really. So many countries also showed Big Brother, and The Biggest Loser, and D-Grade Celebrity Dance Off, and Masterchef, and [Country] Idol. Just because something is done/shown in many countries, and it i...

Re: English FA Cup Losing its magic?

My mistake. I looked up the clubs Wikipedia page and looked at their previous season. I reckon if you asked a french footballer he would choose winning the FA cup over the french cup. Re: English FA Cup Losing its magic?

7,429 entered in the French Cup this year, compared to 763 in this years English FA Cup. I quite like the idea of all the local village and pub sides being able to enter but it must be a logistical nightmare with that many teams. It would be interesting to know how many teams from outside the top 3...

Re: Studs up

It depends on whether the referee judges the tackle to be violent conduct. The same way that throwing a punch at someone and not connecting is a red-card offence, a tackle, if deemed to be violent conduct, even if it doesn't contact the player, is still punishable by a red card. how can a "tac...

Re: English FA Cup Losing its magic?

how many teams go into the french cup then? 7,429 entered in the French Cup this year, compared to 763 in this years English FA Cup. How many years has it been going? It started in 1917, whereas the English FA Cup started in 1871. How many countries is the final watched in? Is the global popularity...

Best local Cup competition in the world. It's a bit later which is a pain....get over it & enjoy the majesty of the FA Cup! :D Why the "local"? There isn't a better one anywhere! The French Cup! It had almost 10x the number of teams enter it, and an amateur side got to the Final! Oh, ...

Re: Studs up

There is no definite rule about "Studs up" (incidentally, http://www.studs-up.com/ is a decent webcomic" The issue is if a player goes into a tackle with both feet off the ground, or "jumping in" to a tackle, they are not in control their movements. This is the key part. A s...

The FA Cup hasn't had magic in a long time. Oh, look, random non-league side knocks out non-descript league one side in the third round. Woop de do. It's like every other competition, it's dominated by the big sides. The only time a team without money has won it in the last 20 years was Everton in 1...

Should've been 3. A great save by the Cardiff keeper, and Nolan missing a header as well.

We will still give you a good fight on the weekend :)

We've had 2 draws so far this season, but it promises to be a long one for OISC in Div 6.

Edit: Fight as in contest, not literal fighting. Given the events of the last few weeks in the SAASL I thought I better make that clear

Please leave the C grade without a goalkeeper this week

Is your Div 6 side the 3rd best side in the club, or does it drop down across the divisions? It's a shame in Div 6 our 5th best side has to come up against other teams 3rd strongest.

Re: Official rules question

If it becomes a "ceremonial free-kick", you have to wait for the whistle. A good ref will remove any doubt about whether it is one by telling the taker to wait for the whistle (and pointing at it), and a good keeper will watch for this before they move to a post to line up the wall. Basic...
