Adelaide University to State League 2

Football Federation SA (FFSA) is delighted to welcome Adelaide University Soccer Club (AUSC) to State League 2 from the beginning of the 2017 Season.

The Blacks, who are celebrating their 80th year of existence in 2016, have enjoyed a rich history within South Australian football.

AUSC were apart of the South Australian Soccer Federation from 1967 to 1982. The University has also entered several Clubs in the FFSA-affiliated Collegiate League since the 1980’s under such names as Graduates Red, Graduates Blue, University White and University Blue.

Based at The University Playing Fields adjacent to the Adelaide Zoo, AUSC’s playing numbers continue to expand in size through their junior ranks and through alignment with Adelaide University – their potential to engage international students is clear.

Frank Grauso, a former player of AUSC when the Club played in the top tier of the South Australian Soccer Federation in 1979 & 1980, is feeling like his old team has returned.

“This is a big step for the University and a great moment for me personally, to see an AUSC team return to the Federation’s competition,” said Frank.

“I want the young players at the Club today to enjoy the same atmosphere around the Club as I did.”
AUSC join Modbury Vista in State League 2 as debutants in 2017 and takes the number of new Clubs welcomed to the competition in the past two seasons to five.

“Welcoming a Club with the standing of Adelaide University, from the heart of the CBD has obvious benefits with the potential to grow the relationship with the University,” said FFSA Chief Executive Michael Carter.

“With the recent additions of Adelaide Vipers, Fulham United, Modbury Vista & Mount Barker to State League 2, we’re progressing toward reaching a consistent twelve team, three tier structure.”

In line with the PlayStation 4 National Premier League and State League 1, there will be a Finals Series in State League 2 next season.
Implications for the SAASL and competition structure for Season 2017? Fielded 6 teams in 2016 (Div 1, Div 1 Reserves, Div 3, Div 3 Reserves, Div 5, Div 6)

It's more of a return after the demise of the SASF's Division 3 back in 1984..
Adelaide University were part of the inaugural SAASL Saturday Division along with Veneto, A.G.U.A, Sturt, Woodville, Flinders University and South Adelaide for the 1984 season...

I would imagine they would keep their top division side and most of the players, why would they drop to a lower standard?

So there Div 5 (C grade) side would be gone. That puts a spanner in the works for the Division One clubs where that C Grade division would be a team short.

No the Div 5 side is expected to go around again to defend their title.

Good news.

However, this made me notice my abysmal spelling. I wholeheartedly apologise.
