West Ham stadium deal

Post by Nice One Cyril »

It's been disclosed that West Ham will pay £2.5m per year on a 99 year, non increasing lease, for the Olympic Stadium in London.

That figure is peanuts now, so in a few years it will be virtually free. What a deal they've got themselves, especially as the LLDC have already spent £260m converting it to a football friendly stadium which, for those of you who didn't study maths at school, is more than West Ham will pay in rent over the whole term of the lease!

Brown envelopes have been spotted in East London

It's not just the envelopes that are brown.

All payments are linked to Retail Price Index (UK equivalent of CPI) so the numbers are inflation-adjusted to 2016 prices.

Yeah, I saw that, but it's not what the original article said. In fact RPI is normally more than the CPI (hence why the Government use CPI for pensions).

Even so, it's less than the wages of an average player, they get a cut of naming rights and catering (over a certain threshhold) and they don't pay for stewarding, policing, upkeep, not even the goalposts and corner flags! Can't blame Karren Brady doing the best for her club, but the officials at the LLDC need a rocket up their jacksy. No wonder they fought so hard to keep the details secret.

My understanding is that it was a competitive tendering process, and the alternative would have been a white elephant.

West Ham are only allowed an initial quota of 25 competitive games per event year. For competitive matches, the rent is £100,000 per game (the same figure for each additional competitive game above 25 if cup/European competitions)
Also pay £100,000 if the club wins the FA Cup, qualifies for the Europa League, or wins the Europa League. £250,000 if the clubs qualifies for the Champions League, and £1,000,000 if the club wins it.
The government get the first £500,000 a year of catering revenue, and then there is a 70/30 split between them and the club after that.
The government retains all naming rights. They get the first £4 million of any naming rights deal per Event Year, and any amount above that is split 50/50 with the club. However, the payment to the club is limited to an amount that is less than however much the club has paid in: (i) Usage Fee and Operating Costs; (ii) League Position Payments; (iii) Performance Payments. Basically the club can't be paid more than the club give the government in rent and its associated bonus payments.

they're basically giving away season tickets as well as they know they don't have a hope in hell of selling it out. Apparently it will be the second largest club ground in the country. How laughable then that it went to a club not capable of selling it out.

This deal is going to leave clubs like Orient in a lot of trouble.

Look who raised Leyton Orient first.

Back on topic I do believer its crazy lease deal , but from Hammers perspective a real gift.

But, I am not playing your game.

the fact remains, your just jealous of the fact that West ham has received a massive win in this stadium deal, but being a millwall tosser, you have to take a pot shot at them.
It Must really burn you to see them do well in the EPL!

If Millwall played in that stadium we'd lose all our fans. Can't see too many being happy about playing in east London.

However, that has got nothing to do with Leyton Orient.

They have pray for United to get at least a point against Bournemouth and then beat Palace on Saturday, for them to qualify for the Europa League.

The point against Bournemouth is irrelevant.
5th Qualifies for the Europa League
6th Qualifies for the Europa League because Man City won the League Cup, and have earned qualification to the Champions League by finishing 4th in the league
7th will qualify for the Europa League if the winners of the FA Cup have an alternate route to European Competition.

As Manchester United cannot finish lower than 6th, they have qualified for the Europa League regardless of the remaining matches.

Either West Ham or Crystal Palace will be in the Europa League depending on the result of the FA Cup Final.
