Player Numbers

Post by M@rvin »

Where in the LOTG does is state that players need to wear numbers and can No1 be worn by a field player?
The goalkeeper is the jewel in the crown and getting at him should be almost impossible. It's the biggest sin in football to make him do any work.

I don't think it says anything about an outfield player not being able to wear number one.

Nothing in FIFA LOTG...
http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/footbal ... eutral.pdf

Only reference in FFSA rules:
http://www.ffsa.com.au/fileadmin/user_u ... 2012_2.pdf
Section 38:
"completed team sheet containing the correct names and initials in block letters, the registered numbers and shirt numbers of the club's players taking part in the match"

Individual associations regulate the numbering systems... there are some broad tournament guidelines released by FIFA but once again these are not specific around the numbers to be used...

Although FIFA themselves restrict World Cup Finals numbering to be 1-23 only...

Ozzie Ardiles wore 1 in '82 World Cup, argentina did the numbering in alphabetical order. The World Cups competition rules now state that #1 can't be an outfield player.
