Corinthians win Club World Cup

Post by Stuckey »

Rafael Benitez failed to win his first trophy as Chelsea manager as his team lost to Brazilian side Corinthians in the Club World Cup final in Japan.

Paolo Guerrero scored the only goal on 69 minutes when he reacted quickest to head home past three Blues players.

Fernando Torres had a chance to force extra time but fired straight at Cassio with only the goalkeeper to beat.

First time South America have won it since 2006. Torres miss an absolute sitter to equalise. Cassio best player of the tournament! Adelaide to Tokyo in one day for two games busy man!

CORINTHIANS - two-time world champions!!!!!!
I wonder if the club has difficulties attracting fans from the wider community with such an 'ethnic' name???????

33 million fans from a number of ethnics comprised by Portuguese, Italians, African, Japanese, Lebanese and Arabics descendents... If you are interested you can google the demographics of Sao Paulo. Ethnic has never been an issue...

Marin came on way too late, I don't think he's a full back though. But the subs were weird. I guess chelsea sucked all together.

gee.....do you know anything about the game??????????????

not that i watched the game but there are a number of situations where you can bring on a defender even though you are chasing the game.....

what if you put on a defender and change the shape to a 3 man defence pushing extra players forward???

not sure how many can make such 'informed' comments without knowing team and individual instructions, chelsea's structure nor the oppositions etc etc

of course you could do that, chelsea certainly didn't appear to do that though.

warn me next time and I won't comment

Well under his reign they've gone out of europe, done shiraz all in the league and lost to an amateur side in a friendly. Can't really argue with that, will he be sacked by christmas?

It wasn't Marin - Benitez brought on Azpilicueta to replace Ivanovic. Maybe before someone gets on their high horse talking about how others don't know football they should actually watch the game!
Never argue with an idiot - they bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Apparently a Brazilian journalist bumped into Oscar and asked him how was the feeling to be on the bench and he said: "He (Benitez) is crazy. That is why the team is playing cabernet". As a Corinthians fan I was happy that he was on the bench. Never seen supporters so unhappy about a coach in the stadium.

by the way, how is that corinthians player who was shot with a couple of minutes to go? I assume he was shot, as that was the only explanation as to why he fell over holding his face as such.
