FootballNews v3
FootballNews started out as a software development project more than 15 years ago. The first version of FootballNews was known as SoccerNews and immediately hit a chord with local football fans. Such was the popularity of the site that the original objectives of the software development project were dropped and it simply became Soccernews.
Around 2000 we started to look at the development of SoccerNews V2. The IIS based Soccernews V1 was struggling under the load and we needed to move to a new technical platform that was better suited to handling the loads. At the same time we introduced many new innovations. It was a very substantial investment of time and money in a not-for-profit and zero revenue venture.
After over 2 years of software development the original Soccernews v1 was replaced by FootballNews v2 in September 2004. FootballNews v2 quickly jumped to the top of the list of Australian Football websites regularly ranking in the top 3 football websites.
FootballNews v2 is now approaching 10 years old. The site continues to be immensely popular though, due to changing circumstances, we no longer have the time and resources to update the front page features of the site. Further those front page features have been taken over by many other providers, such as the FFSA, as they have adopted those features on their own websites.
So it is time to start thinking about the next version - FootballNews v3. So we have created this forum to provide you with the opportunity to tell us what you would like to see in FootballNews v3 - what do you like, what dont you like.
Some key components are unlikely to be changed - for example we will continue to utilise the existing forum software - it is excellent software, very stable and has proven itself over time handling 1 million plus posts and 1 billion plus hits.
Tell us what you think and help to shape FootballNews v3.

Wow, where did the time go?
It's a pretty good site as is; some ideas off the top of my head:

- Limit the size of signature pictures.
Increase PM size.
More emoticons.
Front page to suit widescreen (too much blue screen on sides).

Please, please, please split Local Leagues from A-League

agree on this also...give us a break wrote:Please, please, please split Local Leagues from A-League
The home page (if needed at all) should be redesigned as a static page with general information and not a news page.
as suggested no need to duplicate info available elsewhere...

Re: FootballNews v3
Yeh I don't understand the A League and State leagues being rolled into one forum, needs division, makes no sense
Seems to be lots of robots coming thru advertising, when signing up can there be a picture option showing letters / numbers that you need to enter as text to prevent / limit this.
Direct links to forums eg Active Posts | A-League | FFSA | SAASL | World Football | Womens | Juniors etc in the header and footer areas - and list forums in order of popularity
Its well controlled and well moderated overall, good job guys

Ah, and another thing.
The time on Football News is UTC + 9.30. Would be great to have South Australia Real Time on here.

- Make the capchya harder to bypass for spammers/bots
- Limit multi-user accounts (bodo and GIAE, have a tissue!)
- Time to reconsider ads? I’d happily put up with an ad and click it if the whatever was grossed from it went to the local game in the form of a sponsorship or a grant or something.

A signature has the effect of "signing off" the message indicating that no more response follows. It is common practice for a signature to contain some brief information on the author of the message, but not in this case.

Nothing wrong with fn making its own profit from any ads revenue. The Kop wrote:- Make the capchya harder to bypass for spammers/bots

The forum part is just an off the shelf thing anyway. No developing required. One of the Millwall boards used to be exactly the same.
