Ange P....is he the greatest?

Post by MegaBonus »

Is he the greatest contemporary footballer across all codes?

His record....

2 championships as a player (1 as a captain)
4 club championships as a coach (2 SMH & 2 Roar)
1 Asia Championship as. National Team coach

Don't know much about League or Union but in Aussie Rules there's Leigh Matthews....
4 championships as a player
4 championships as a coach (1 Magpies & 3 Lions)

Took so much criticism from the media on results. He was aiming for one goal and that was to win the cup on home soil. Let's see how our ranking is now.

I was one who said I'd give him this tournament to convince me. I was confident Australia would win in, and Ange didnt let us down so he's thumbs up from me.

Ange has done what he set out to do, develop a team spirit, play with a consistent style, fix our defensive problems,, reduce the reliance on Tim Cahill to score our goals, develop a culture of attacking Football.

It's hard to make a comparison with guys that have been successful players and coach, the only comparable one would be Ricky Stuart (rugby league)

Good to see someone who doesn't try and hide their ignorance. The next step for you would be to try and rectify it.

So you do know who he is and were just being a knob. Well done for confirming it.

I don't know who he is but gathered that he had something to do with rugby league from your earlier post. If anyone is being a knob it's you.

Then why get involved with the conversation if you don't know anything about sport?

That's fine (it is), however Megabonus' question was across the 4 football codes.

So if you couldn't understand his question that's fine or you don't know much about sport that's fine as well.

he would have to be the greatest.. major pre-requisite would be that you need to win silverware for your COUNTRY so that rules out the aussie rules code

and considering football is the biggest sport in the world it would have to be Ange P

thing is that this team and the newfound style of play Ange ha installed in the National Team is still DEVELOPING... still have the best to come :D

I think from a coaching point of view you are probably right, however Megabonus' question was also around playing the game as well.

I have great respect for anyone that represents their country, however Ange would never have been considered to be the player in his code that Ricky Stuart was in his.

Not knocking the guy at all as I think this is a debate that needs to be had in the national media.

Its a pointless argument to have though.
Winning something internationally far exceeds anything domestically. So AFL will never ever compete. Otherwise it would be like saying that winning the HAL is better than winning the ACL.
But obviously they would never admit to that.

It's amazing to think that melbourne heart/city laughed at him when he applied to be an assistant coach 5 years ago, they basically ignored his Nsl success and just went by the Craig foster interview...which let's face if back then everyone did, can't think of a bloke that has copped as much stick as Ange yet he always somehow comes out on top...he has never lost a final!

But the comparison was Ricky Stuart (NRL) which does have an international competition and it's own world cup. By your reckoning someone who coached Australia to a world cup win in Rugby League or Rugby Union would be better than Ange winning the Asian Cup.
