Re: England - 2015-16 Yet Another Year In The Championship :
Two game left for most teams, exciting finish to the season.
1. Three points from 1st to 4th.
2. Four points from 5th to 8th.
3. One relegation spot left between Rotherham and Millwall.

Come on Rotherham - after so long languishing in the lower leagues you deserve another crack at Championship glory.

But not as many as Charlton's 18 draws, eh ozzie owl? Imagine where the Owls would have been if just some of their 17 draws were wins... A further 34 points were on offer.ozzie owl wrote:Bournemouth 2 Owls 2 ,yet another draw at least it wasn't 0-0.swannsong wrote:Huddersfield Town ( 4 ) Derby County ( 4 ) ... bit of a goal fest ..
Millwall ( 0 ) Cardiff ( 0 ) ... bit of a goal drought ..
The carrot of 4 points for a win might just get the likes of Charlton to throw off the shackles in the last 20 minutes of a match and go all out for a win instead of settling for 1 point from a draw.
4 points for a win, 1 for a draw should be trialled and evaluated to see if it has an effect on clubs/managers/coaches' mindset.
IMO here in Australia the A-League's Damien De Bohun was pathetic in not going through with his undertaking to trial that in a minor NPL.

Con, I have long championed the idea of 4 points for a win, but I would also have 2 points for a score draw, 1 point for a goalless draw and a bonus point for a side scoring 4 goals or more in a game regardless of the result.Con M wrote:But not as many as Charlton's 18 draws, eh ozzie owl? Note how the league are dragging their feet over their points deduction. I think they're waiting for a time when it won't matter what they do and then they'll announce the points deduction. If they announce it now, Millwall or Rotherham will be threatening court action.Old Master wrote:Come on Rotherham - after so long languishing in the lower leagues you deserve another crack at Championship glory.

Mathematically Brighton And Hove Albion aren't safe either.

A recent, bizarre rule change in Tahitian soccer has softened the blow for losing teams considerably.
Tahiti’s Football Association have revamped their scoring system in the domestic leagues so that winners now pick up four points instead of three, a draw yields two points, and losers pick up one point. Yes, losing teams now literally get rewarded just for showing up.
And here’s the kicker: it’s all because they “don’t want anyone to be sad.”

If Rotherham have lost the points, not read that Brighton have been given them.

Giving the points to Brighton doesn't help Millwall's case so I can't see that as clutching of straws.

The same comments were raised by Luddites like you lot when they first introduced 3 points for a win.
Changing the points system in the way I put forward is aimed at increasing the reward for winning and for giving teams some reward for a score draw over a nil-nil result.
FIFA were quite responsive to my suggestion and if any of you have long memories, it was raised as one of the options in their research before settling for 3 points for a win.
I have also heard that they are seriously looking at my suggestion (not that I claim to be the only person to come up with it) and are seriously considering trialling it in some minor leagues in the near future.
The older I get the better I was.

Millwall were out of the drop zone at one stage but a goal for Derby and Rotherham seconds apart put them both in the position they were in at the start of play, albiet it with one less game to play.
