Coaching Resources

Post by MegaBonus »

from of all places...the Scottish FA...(sorry couldnt help myself...)

seriously though...its well organised, structured and full of resources which can be copied or printed....

also

if the scots can accept that small sided games is the superior way in terms of player development, can their migrant cousins here in australia do the same!!!!!

AGES 9-12
•Competition opportunities should reflecting developmental principles (e.g equal playing time for all) through small-sided games (Developmental 4's, Soccer 7's):

REMEMBER: the coaching points are what you are trying to teach..............................

does this sound familiar???????????

you know whats scary???? the yanks have a 10 year head start on us!!!!!!!!!!!!
To compensate for the demise of street football in recent years a number of Westernised
football federations, such as the Scottish FA, have recognised that if they have any desire
to develop world-class footballers in the future and revive street football, or introduce a
modern-day equivalent, then they must replicate a fun and enjoyable small-sided games
environment for young players. As a result, the Scottish FA has formulated and
implemented a programme – Developmental Fours – in an attempt to replicate street
football and thus replenish the lack of creativity throughout the Scottish game.

The old man has resources available for coaches who want to learn and improve.

His website is www.thefootballcentre.com.au

We've talked alot over the years about the lack of resources and assistance outside of coaching courses which is why this has eventuated.

Hi JBJB
looking forward to your posts

Are you a technical director ?

I think that volunteer Coaches who share information is good for the clubs and development of players

It would be good if the ffsa coaches could post similar informations they take the best players from different clubs and don't share what they are doing with the kids they take.

Maybe they can post on the ffsa website what they are doing and what they intend to achieve, that way we all know what is happening with the best kids they have taken from the clubs.

Just seems like a secret what they are doing?

ill post some stuff soon on this and helpful ways to improve as a coach. Yes its hard to get good info and thats why i thought id put some of the database i have and if it helps great if not then no harm done.

thanks for the feedback

http://fitforfutbol.com/2013/07/1131/ his books explain alot and even plan out sessions on how to do it .

http://www.edpsoccer.com/raymondverheijen

Curriculum and FFA plan for better football

For the uneducated and doomsayers - the curriculum is not just about the 1 - 4- 3 - 3.. in fact its not that this is a bad thing or wins games all the time. The reason is based around what i posted below if you spend the time to read and study = knowledge = understanding = practical application to football and eventually = world cups and championships or in lamen's terms winning which at the end of the day is the ultimate outcome.

So many people have been caught up on the formation, but like Spain, the revolution was based around the concepts of how to play and where you play, therefore if you look at many structures the 4 - 3- 3 provide technical and positioning education to players to understand roles and the elusive creative players which we as Australians lack. So in its teaching you are focused on teaching the roles and technical aspects of these roles, in a 4 -4 - 2 you may never teach how a wing player deals with that role , as normally they are not playing both out wide ( as an example)

The history is the culture of aussies is to mix and revolutionize our process and methods to construct a new type of play or style which accommodates our aussie way and incorporates a technical and creative level we lack, as we don't produce this as we dont teach or encourage it enough.

So, probably the biggest example is playing out the back , rarely do juniors enforce this - why , because its risk - at u 10 , 11, 12, to u18 we are scared as coaches to risk goals ! coz its hard to lose! or for easy goals to go in coz we are trying to play . Now the argument is ....

why play out under pressure where the kid loses the ball and we cant get out and pass, go long and let that big striker have it , run with the ball and kick a goal = job done !
So as they get older , all these players miss the chance to learn to deal with the pressure on the ball and play all sorts of avenues and find solutions to make it happen . who's fault is it??

1 Coaches pride - especially juniors , worried about if i dont win or not getting it right, we put on ourselves a load which worries about others think and expect , a good coach doesn't lose ? how can we learn if we don't fail.

2 fear of loss - what if ? and players not able to learn ( not good enough in the eyes of the coach ) coaches job is to make them better

3 or lack of knowledge / understanding to implement and teach

in effect we fail to recognize the growth mindset and are not open to change, in learning to develop these aspects coaches improve and players improve. the basics on playing out has significant reasons , able to play / pass ball under extreme pressure, playing angles or passes that are advanced, learning to effectively move into a position to receive the ball and play quickly etc...

instead coaches try in a game and and it fails costs a goal or two and give up, sending a signal that its too hard, or not possible to play every ball or develop this needed skill. the question is this , if the top schools / academies teach it and enforce it and they produce some of the best players in the world! how can we expect to produce the same if we ignore and don't try.

because we have coaches who just want to do their way, grab the best players and say job done, this only lasts for a small period of time, when they get older they are just not able to deal with pressure on the ball , touch and technical aspects, unless their dads help or they dedicate themselves in their own time. (most of the golden age of Aussie players category )

So it is about being open and learning, ok if you are not getting help, then you have to research yourself and ask questions and mentor up with a coach who does.

FFA

this is a great book to help and most license stuff is from here

http://www.ffacoachingresource.com.au/a ... ng-blocks/

https://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&rct= ... HoEIeeU8aw

There is so much around, just have to research and look. There is a difference to saying we teach it to actually applying it.

Lastly on sessions and drills, in reality we see a good drill as such and we copy it, but before you use it try to find out what they are teaching, the whole aspect is this maybe a drill related to transition or wide play for etc.. but your whole session s not based on this, there maybe part 1 , 2, 3,4 , and you have grabbed just one part and therefore are not linking all your session to teach or coach . if a teacher taught your kid and started doing English, then moved to science then math and then spelling in one hour session how much would your child learn in that hour class and the session was suppose to be spelling say??? something to think about

that's all from me heaps here maybe down the track add some specific areas as its a resource for helping and thoughtful process .

that it for me on here hope its a help.

Analysis with scouting and technical mods for coaching last on my input here, since its being high-jacked

http://outsideoftheboot.com/

This site is unique in that it provides good coaching mods and scouting around the world, quite a well designed and well informed site, ive followed this for a while and player pickups, its quite amazing how many are cheap and the next few years turn into million dollar signings.

Enjoy- all done hope something on here has been useful for someone.
