Craig Laird's SAASL Sunday Premier Division

Post by manu1 »

Match of the Day
BRAHMA Lodge have moved to 3rd on the table after humbling Salisbury Florina 12-1 at Cockburn Green.
Florina came into the game in 3rd position with Lodge sitting one point adrift in 4th place but it was Lodge who opened strongly taking the lead on nine minutes when a long ball over the defence was met by Jarred Foster who neatly lobbed the out coming keeper.
Two minutes later the lead was doubled when a cross found Foster at the back post who slotted his chance and on 20 minutes the game was all but over when a Jay Crescenzi cross found an unmarked Michael Mullen who had time to steady before picking his spot.
Lodge went 4-0 before a Jason Trimboli free kick offered some hope for the visitors who trailed 4-1 at half time.
After the break it was one way traffic as Lodge fired home eight unanswered goals.
Mullen finished with five goals while Foster netted four as Brahma put their opening day loss to Florina well and truly behind them.
Lodge coach Ryan Mogg “They are a good side who were in front of us on the ladder before today so it’s a really pleasing result.”

ELIZABETH Downs have extended their lead at the top of the table to eight points thanks to a 9-2 thrashing of Southern Knights at Southern Knights Oval.
The Maroons travelled south looking to keep their unbeaten record in tact while Knights were looking to break a nine game losing streak.
Ben McMullen got on the end of some nice build up play to open the scoring for the Downs and moments later he scored a contender for goal of the season with a superb overhead kick making it 2-0.
The Downs never looked back from that point with Matt Watson and McMullen scoring hat tricks while Billy Allotey scored twice. The ever dangerous Tom Foglia found the net for the home team along with Ryan Curran.
Downs coach Alan Mottram “We have a nice gap at the top now which is pleasing but we need to just focus on the next game.”

ELIZABETH Vale made it three wins in a row with a stirring 3-2 win over Parafield Gardens at Bradman Oval.
On the opening day the Vale and Gardens shared the points in a thrilling 2-2 draw and they both came into this game in good form.
Gardens opened the scoring through Oathman Fazilahmed before Steve Orange cancelled that out with a cracking long distance goal.
The Vale took a 2-1 lead to the break when on 39 minutes captain James Greaves rounded the keeper before firing home from a tight angle.
Gardens were back on level terms on the hour when an Alban Martini cross from the right found Fazilahmed who brought the ball down before finishing coolly.
In a couple of minutes of madness Parafield were reduced to nine men and as good teams do the Vale made them pay when Chris Nicholls played in Greaves who settled before taking his chance and all three points for the visitors.
In a final twist Gardens had another player sent off to finish the game with only eight players.
Vale coach Tim Crawford “I was really happy with our lads discipline and we look forward to playing Inter next week”.
A Fine 2nd half display from Salisbury Inter has helped them defeat Para Hills East 3-1 at Underdown Park.

Para Hills East travelled to Underdown Park keen to get back on the winners list and they more than held their own as the teams went to the break at 0-0.
After the break the Inter midfield started to take control and deserved the lead on 65 minutes when Boree Kieng played in Jackson Bell who finished smartly.
On 70 minutes the lead was doubled when Easties failed to clear the ball and Nathan Pettit pounced to fire the ball home to the delight of the home fans.
On 75 minutes a Marcus Marchioro shot was glanced in via Boree Kieng’s head to make it 3-0 before East grabbed a consolation goal through Jamie Conlon.
Inter Coach Steve Cook “I challenged the boys to back up a good performance last week so it was pleasing to get a good result.”
MODBURY Vista have breathed life into their season after a hard fought 1-0 win over ingle Farm at Walkleys Park.
The bottom place Vista came into the game with only one point from the opening nine games and new anything other than a win over the eighth place Farm would all but ensure relegation.
Both teams were up for the battle and as the game wore on the first goal was always going to be vital and on 75 minutes a ball into the box was mishandled by the Farm keeper and Jarryd McLaughlin was on the spot to fire the ball home.
The win moves Vista to within four points of Ingle Farm and coach Steve Melling believes this result can be the start of better things to come “It was a real battle today but I think we can look forward to the 2nd half of the season and can hopefully build on this”.

Vista had been missing players through injury or simply being unavailable and most of these players are now back. The team is starting to play better with greater commitment and purpose and now have a window of opportunity in the next few games to catch up on points and save their season.

12 - 1 WTF !!! Were there players missing or sent off like in the Parafield Gardens game for Florina for this to have happen or were they just having a very bad day or have Brahama improved hat much from the beginning of the season ??

I thought you could sign after June 30 but not transfer. Is that not the case?

Transfer would have been lodged before deadline (so process started) & previous club would have been notified. If previous club signed initial transfer then he would be immediately registered. If they didn't (which I suspect in this case) & then no response is received from the club within 7 days the player is then registered. Obviously he was still registered for that weekends game.

Straightforward concept

I quite understand technically 'how' it was probably achieved on paper, but playing for the club he was transferring from, 'after' the transfer deadline would mean that technically, he was still a Murray United player (not sitting it out waiting for the transfer to finalise) after the window had closed....I don't care, either way about him rejoining the SAASL...just an interesting loophole...

He's not back for a couple of weeks so his transfer paperwork should be all clear by then.

Surely you are not transferred until it goes through. As long as paperwork was submitted in time, he can play for his old club until he is "transferred". That to me would be the common sense approach anyway. Then again, when have football federations in this state worried about common sense.

Surely though, as long as the paperwork is in then it's fine. A club shouldn't be held responsible because the league didn't process it in time.

A club may withhold releasing a player as they still owe money ( fees etc ) therefore the player is still registered with the original club .
given the SAASL are the only senior association not affiliated with FFA it makes the transfer process alot harder

(b) Players holding a current registration and wishing to transfer to another club,
must complete on line transfer process. This can only be done by 30th June.
The acceptance of the transfer is at the discretion of the league.
