Craig Laird's Sunday Premier Division write up. July 23, 2017.

Match of the Day
A BEN MCMULLEN goal three minutes from time has seen Elizabeth Downs salvage a point in a 1-1 draw with Salisbury Inter at Underdown Park.
The Maroons travelled to Salisbury with a perfect record of six wins from six on the road while Inter were looking to build on a four game unbeaten run in the league.
The game opened at a high tempo and on 22 minutes Inter grabbed the lead when a ball across the box fell to Matt Marchioro who steadied before slotting the ball into the corner.
The Downs Braiden Gundlach burst into the box on 29 minutes but his shoot went wide and on 36 minutes the Inter goal lived a charmed life as Scott Lindsay’s shot was well saved and another shot was cleared off the line.
A minute before the break the Maroons thought they’d equalised when a Tommy Blackett shot was only parried by Josh Foreshaw before Billy Allotey tapped the ball home only to be ruled out for offside.
A cross from substitute Ben McMullen on 73 minutes found Allotey who brought the ball down superbly before volleying his shot just wide.
The Maroons were pushing hard for an equaliser and on 87 minutes the two substitutes combined when a Damien Dalglish cross was fired home by McMullen to the delight of the travelling Downs fans.
Downs coach Alan Mottram “I’m disappointed not to have won but in the end I’m pleased we got something out of the game.”

TWO goals in the last two minutes have seen Brahma Lodge defeat Ingle Farm 2-0 at Walkley Park.
Brahma were strong favourites against an Ingle Farm outfit who have lost their last four games but after hitting the woodwork on five separate occasion it looked like it wasn’t going to be Lodge’s day.
The deadlock was broken on 89 minutes when a Jay Crescenzi corner was flicked on to Jarred Foster who chested the ball home.
Farm pushed for an equaliser and got caught on the counter attack with Lewis Vallelonga playing in Michael Mullen who slid the ball home to the heart break of the home supporters.
The win moves the 2nd placed Lodge to within seven points of Elizabeth Downs while Farm drop into the relegation zone.

ELIZABETH Vale have moved to 3rd on the table after a 1-0 win over Para Hills East at Moflin Road.
Both sides came into the game with vastly different form, the Vale unbeaten in their last four while Easties were trying to arrest a four game losing run.
The Vale got off to the perfect start when in the first minute a Cameron Dobbin cross from the right hand side found the experienced Chris Nicholls who headed what proved to be the winning goal.
The game was a free flowing affair with Vale keeper Travis Delfos in top form as he regularly denied East while for the Vale the crossbar twice denied them from doubling their lead.
Vale coach Tim Crawford “I’m really please but we’ve got to keep going, we have a real test next week against the Downs.”

MODBURY Vista have moved out of the bottom two with a comfortable 3-0 win over Parafield Gardens at Bradman Oval.
Vista, winless in their opening nine rounds, were looking for a 3rd win in a row while Gardens hoped to end a run of two straight losses in the league.
Vista struck on 10 minutes when some good build up play finished with Robbie Williams who netted from close range.
The lead was doubled on 38 minutes when a cross from the left was headed home by Russell Clayton and on 75 minutes a Dillon Baker deflected shot sealed the points.
Vista coach Steve Melling “We have had a change of luck and I think that has helped the confidence of the boys who now have real belief that they can compete at this level.”
BOTTOM placed Southern Knights have breathed life into their season with a convincing 4-2 win over Salisbury Florina at Southern Knights Oval.
Knights have been on a miserable nine game losing run but they put that behind them with an inspired 1st half.
Florina opened the scoring on four minutes through Jason Trimboli before Tom Foglia squared the ledger on 12 minutes.
The Knights took the lead on 20 minutes when Jordy Ruch fired home from a tight angle and five minutes later Ruch got on the end of a long ball from keeper Fraser McLean before slotting his chance.
It was 4-1 on 31 minutes when another McLean long ball found Foglia who finished coolly.
Florina reduced the lead on 70 minutes but Knights wouldn’t be denied a win that sees them now only three points from safety.
Knights Nick Swann “We had a depleted team today but the boys showed great character and spirit to get the win.”

Vista played really well - their best game of the year by far - their 1st goal as scored on the 2nd minute of the game rather than on 10 minutes.

Helps when the boys get a decent surface to play on

It might be terrible at Vista but it's the same for both teams and Vista get more practise on it.
