Australia & New Zealand to host FIFA Women's World Cup 2023

Post by united92 »

Well, we've done it. Australia and NZ will host the FIFA Women's World Cup in 2023. Vote ended up 22-13 over Colombia.
A huge result for not only women's football, but women's sport.
This is a game changer for football in this country

I suspect the Cartel got into UEFA again. UEFA is corrupt and how could they put anything credence towards Columbia's poor bid. Something smells from that organisation.

UEFA has staunchly defended its decision to snub the trans-Tasman 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup bid and block vote for Colombia despite an inferior evaluation report.

UEFA said in a statement their vote for Colombia was an attempt to try to increase the growth of the women's game in South America.
"Even though the Colombian bid was not the one rated highest technically by FIFA, European members of the FIFA Council felt that it represented a strategic opportunity for the development of women's football in South America thanks to the legacy and increase of attention for the women's game that the tournament would bring to the continent.

I notice Coopers is one of the venues. Fantastic news. It has to be a bonus for SA.

Didn't they also support the Qatar bid? The most corrupt sporting decision in history?

waste of taxpayer's money

get ready for 3 years of feminist virtue signaling and entitled narcissism which Australia knows more about without having any culture in the actual sport

hopefully it will be like the Sydney Olympics where you didn't even make it past the first round

watch more federal funds flow into women's football which the national team couldn't even beat a local u15 boys team in Newcastle

watch Australian football, the men's game fall further into the abyss on the world stage because the FFA will prioritize the low hanging fruit which is women's international football.

Any weight put purely that politically stable, Low Covid-19 scenario? Maybe some guilt with mens' bid for WC 2022?
Either way, its a positive for us, and I will watch with interest how AFLW and the cronies within will respond.

How predictable...........................and boring. YAWN! Well done Australia and New Zealand, certain that they can make it a tournament to remember for all the right reasons.

Fantastic outcome for Australia and New Zealand.

Unfortunately all the State Government funding is for temporary works at Hindmarsh. There is no permanent improvements. Reflects the interests of the State sports minister.

Spot on no lasting legacy for the game in this state, sadly wrong sporting code.

Aussie team will flop in 2023

out in first round, but there'll be plenty of rainbow flags to distract from the actual football

rest of world is getting better and the window for Australia has peaked

I hope the Poms are embarrassed voting with UEFA for Columbia. They whinged like all hell over missing out to Russia 2018 and now they shaft us. Maybe they just want back into Europe.
I hope we can return the favour next time England try for a world cup.

we missed our opportunity at last world cup we blew it
Only one country who has hosted the world cup has won it and that was an awesome American team.
in 3 years time some of the current Matildas will struggle to make the squad, they will be too slow for starters, our lack of pace at the back was exposed last world cup until McCormick and Checker came into the squad next to Carpenter we looked a lot stronger at the back.. The likes of Polkinghorne, Kennedy, Logarzo, Gielnik even Butt ( Yallop ) are going to struggle with the pace of the game . Who ever is coaching is going to have his or her hands full telling these players they didnt make the cut ,glad it is not me. Need to look at recruiting players to cover for them, from now.
my 5 cents worth.

Australia is lucky that New Zealand is there to show them how it's done. I wonder why the Aussies couldn't host it by themselves. ;-)

Let’s calm down a bit.

The smart bidders decided that ‘winning’ in this world environment is anything but.

A great way way to get your corona numbers up again.

And I’ll love to see the look on Sammy-chicks face when she’s not in the squad- I’m sure yesterdays celebrations were fun, especially the frolics between the elgees , but all premature.

As a former Pom and a proud Aussie for 45 years, I am disgusted that the FA wimped out and voted with the Europeans - Brexit was a waste of time if they are just going to follow the herd - Barstewards!
The older I get the better I was.

Best bid won you thats all that matters. As for corona numbers, I didn't know FIFA had anounced beer supplier for the tournament yet, maybe you have some inside knowledge.

Here's a chance for some of the lefties involved in our game to make some noise. "We need desperate upgrades to Hindmarsh otherwise it will be seen as ignoring women's sport".

why does it need an upgrade ?
average attendance for women's world cup qualifying match is between 10,000 -12,000
why spend all that money for a one off event, even if Matildas end up in the group that play here
a packed stadium every game makes for great atmosphere, whoever gets to play here.

lefties don't care about the sport
they only care about filling their own pockets for doing as little as possible except complain
