Yep, Arsenal won the Shield 5-4 on penalties. 1-1 after 90 minutes. Great goal by Aubameyang.united92 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2020 10:57 amCommunity Shield is this weekend, PL starts 12 SeptemberDave now from No 9 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2020 10:13 am when does season start , are fixtures out yet ?

Nah ya fisherboy you, formerly the Isolated One. I’ll bite. Couldn’t find a Charity Shield thread to please you. And it’s a traditional opening part of a season, this one being EPL season 20/21.
No comment by you about this absorbing match? 1am Adelaide time past your bedtime?

Good game to watch. Aubameyang is a vg player. Arteta will improve Arsenal considerably as long as he has the support of the board withCon M wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 3:50 amYep, Arsenal won the Shield 5-4 on penalties. 1-1 after 90 minutes. Do you need a graphic to show you how to start a new thread? You moan and groan about rules and regaulations (along with everything else) yet can't follow forum ones?Con M wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 9:52 amNah ya fisherboy you, formerly the Isolated One. Bizarre behaviour.
Yes, I was tucked up asleep at 1am. I don't need to watch live, technology and sense means I can watch when I want.

Re: EPL 20/21
Wembley is a Hone Ground to them since it was rebuilt.
I wonder how it would have gone if the match was played at the Champions' Anfield Stadium, which should be the norm for this non-event match?

Re: EPL 20/21
Have they changed the VAR rules on offside this season or have Arsenal upped their payments to the refs?

They don't need to pay the referees, muscat-oles are the FA's & Referee's Club, always have been and always will be.Nice One Cyril wrote: ↑Sun Sep 20, 2020 9:12 am Have they changed the VAR rules on offside this season or have Arsenal upped their payments to the refs?

Re: EPL 20/21
The game is a total mess and the VAR and referees are largely to blame, one small positive is that they do appear to be using the pitchside monitor at last.

Re: EPL 20/21
After listening to Dermot Gallacher, it appears that I may have been a bit unfair on the refs, they're simply doing what they've been told to do by FIFA and IFAB. Which is to totally shiraz up the game that we love. Bunch of champagne.
The LOTG were largely fine for 130 years, with on pitch refs making the decisions. Some law changes have been OK, like the offside rule and the goal line technology, but this constant tinkering with intepretation is madness. Handball should only be given if the ref thinks it's deliberate (which I think is still the actual Law) and the technology of the pitchside monitor should be used for him to review what he's only seen in real time.

Re: EPL 20/21
The only time they'll get the pitchside monitor decisions right is if they set up a lounge chair, have a pint ready, allow a couple replays............Nice One Cyril wrote: ↑Sun Sep 27, 2020 1:48 pmThe game is a total mess and the VAR and referees are largely to blame, one small positive is that they do appear to be using the pitchside monitor at last.

Re: EPL 20/21
The players, managers and supporters are not happy with the new Handball rules either.
There have been 6 Penalties awarded so far this season in the EPL compared to Zero at the same stage of last season.
How can a player be adjudged to have handled the ball when he's facing the opposite direction to the ball, in the air and the ball hit s him from behind?
What is the new law?
A new interpretation of the handball law was introduced at the beginning of this season. Under these new rules, a player will be penalised for handball if:
The hand/arm is clearly away from the body and outside the "body line" .
The player clearly leans into the path of the ball.
The ball travels some distance.
The ball touches a hand/arm that is clearly raised above the shoulder.
The player falls and the hand/arm is extended laterally or vertically away from the body.
A deflection clearly makes no difference to the ball touching a hand/arm that is clearly extended away from the body and/or above the shoulder.
Come on, abandon this new rule for the sake of the game!
