“I’m a little embarrassed, to be honest,” England great Ian Botham said on Channel 7.
“To lose the Ashes in 12 days ... I just think that England have lost their way.

They didn't lose the ashes in 12 days. They didn't have them to begin with!

Re: Ashes 21/22
back to business....they say not to read too much into stats... I beg to differ
It took just 852.3 overs, the smallest quantity of cricket ever required for Australia to win the Ashes at home after a third Test lasting just 180 overs and four balls - also making this the earliest any team has ever lost a five-Test series.
The tourists tumble to lowest score in Australia since 1904 after being razed for 68 at MCG
No team has ever lost more Tests in a calendar year than the nine defeats suffered by England in 2021.
England have been bowled out for under 150 a joint-record eight times this year.
England still have only two players who have posted half-centuries in this Ashes.
The total number of ducks by England batters in 2021 is 50. The next highest figure this century is 33.
2 = Total number of England batters over the last 10 years with a batting average above 40 (Root and Cook). There are 11 from each of Australia and Pakistan, 10 Indians, eight Bangladeshis, seven from New Zealand and South Africa, six Sri Lankans and five from the West Indies.

Re: Ashes 21/22
The stats don't lie. This current English team is so truly bad they have no chance of winning as it looks right now. Things need to change for them to even be competitive.

We've shown we can be competitive butbit only seems to happen in short bursts. We basically played terrible for 2 x 0.5 sessions in Melbourne and got stuffed. Up until the last half of Day 2, Session 3 the game was in the balance.

Re: Ashes 21/22
Was always going to be an uphill struggle what with no warm ups and 2 home umpires giving benefit of the doubt to home team. But we’ll try to push on. England 2-3, Root top scorer

Re: Ashes 21/22
You seriously think the umpires had bearing on the result so far?
As for warm ups, our guys hardly played any test cricket in 2021 as opposed to your lot.

Re: Ashes 21/22
Does appear that 50/50 decisions have gone one way. How many reviews have been umpires call in Australia's favour? Day 2 Adelaide saw the umpires keep the team on the field when it was raining and there was lightning which left England another wicket down.
Australia have had shield cricket, didn't have quarantine and didn't have their warm up games interrupted by weather.
But, to your question, no real bearing on the results.

2nd rain delay already at Sydney. Why play cricket in places with such a poor climate?

Re: Ashes 21/22
Yeah to win a Test series you have to master the conditions. That’s what’s disappointing, the technical gap was closer than I thought it would be but we just weren’t smart enough across the board. We need to be smarter on and off the field to win hereGod is an Englishman wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 8:13 am

Re: Ashes 21/22
Even day one.
Even with weather delays, recent history shows you don't need five days of cricket so result still on the cards.
On a separate matter, how about Bangladesh knocking off the kiwis in kiwi?
