2 of the 3 teams in our WC qualifying group that made it through had good wins.
against perceived powerhouses and past WC Winners....thus, qualifying via the playoffs is a fair indication of where we are at....5th best team in Asia
Iran failed but I think they would beat us. Qatar was hopeless against a reasonable opponent. I think Sth Korea has a show against Uruguay tonight. 5th best sounds right although the Saudi's are 13 places below us. That will change.
If the next world cup wasn't 48 teams there's no way Australia would qualify.

Have noticed these little tables come up on the screen during games for things like ‘Total Receptions’ and ‘Defensive Line Breaks’. Someone in graphics must be taking the piss.....hopefully

I know that some of us are dinosaurs/technophobes but you do realise the use of technology and the associated data output is comprehensively used at an elite level....

BTW - i think A Wenger has been consulted regarding what game data is considered significant

Richarlson's goal was great last night but Tim Cahill's goal is my GOAT.

Liked the Ghana player nicking the ball off the keeper right at the end, shame he slipped before he could shoot

Well, that’s where Australia went wrong.

Too many unsolicited transition yards and not enough possessive diagonal receives

I enjoyed the Japan Uruguay match. For a 0:0 result, it was quite good.

Love how the refs are letting things go but yeah he nearly cut him in half. Frantic game and what a finish. Loved it. Iran v yanks for a place in knockouts would be interesting

I can understand this (not initially giving a straight red) as Referee was thinking stopping a promising attack (yellow card) or denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity (red card). Initially the Referee would not have appreciated the high contact by the 'keeper on the attacker due to a poor angle. In the end up the officials got it right through VAR and the keeper was dismissed for serious foul play.

Have to agree that it was an entertaining game and got to say that Iran thoroughly deserved the win- they were more direct in attacking their opponent and it would have been an injustice had they failed to win. In my opinion Bale and Ramsey were poor and at this level you can't afford to carry too many passengers.

Was hoping it stayed a draw. That could have meant we win a few hours and wednesday's game was completely irrelevant.

Now we may have to keep an eye on GD.

Southgate showing his true colours, only picked Maddison because of public pressure but has zero intention of actually using him, didn't make the subs bench in the first two games.

Agree Cyril, he has no ambition at all. Continues to roll out Mount, game in the balance this morning & he brings on Henderson.. Foden didn't get on the bus today??
