Yes they did. Had no choice but to give it.

They also got the starc one right but all we heard was whingeing after he was caught cheating.

They're now whingeing about being boo'd.

Not everyone in England has ben drinking the whinge Koolaide.

Former England captain Nasser Hussain was full of praise for Carey, saying that it was a piece of “very smart, switched-on cricket” from the wicketkeeper.
“I’m not one for buying into this whole spirit of the game thing,” Hussain told the Daily Mail. “Be switched on and don’t leave your crease — it’s a lesson.”

“Not Out,” Hogg shouted on Twitter.

“Spirit of cricket pushed to the boundary. Not attempting a run, end of over, scratched crease then walked for the regulation BS chat between overs between batsman."

At which point it is probably necessary to let reality impinge just a little. England are 2-0 down not because of cheating Aussies or insufficient ambition, but because they are playing a superior side with superior cricketers, with more tones and shades to their game.

my faith in English realism is restored...well done to one of my favourite English Football/cricket journalist....

pity some cant be graceful on here just like many of us who acknowledged Stokes.

Gideon Haigh is spot on

The parrot cry of ‘same old Aussies, always cheating’ also invites the question of from whom they might have learned it. After all, you can trace the line of Ashes tit-for-tat back to the Oval in 1882 when, coincidentally, WG Grace ran out the Australian Sammy Jones for wandering out of his crease under a misapprehension the ball was dead. “I taught the lad a lesson,” Grace is reputed to have said afterwards; just so.

But the jostling of players in the members? Really? By virtue of the antiquity of the Long Room, and the assumption that people-like-us know how to behave, Lord’s retains the privilege of unusual proximity to the players - the frisson from hearing a player’s spikes on the hardwood floor is one of cricket’s glories.

They will not have it long, however, if blimps and prigs want to vent fury on their visitors because they are unaware of the laws that … checks notes …. their own club sets for the world. And what could be a worse look in the week of the Equity in Cricket report than puce-faced, dim-bulb snobs picking fights with a placid, softly-spoken Muslim player? Chaps, pull yourselves together.

You’re actually cheating Stokes of some of his glory.

It’s a nice change however for once it’s not Australia that’s been gobbing off all series. England have fired off shots before and throughout the entire series through on field chatter and passively through the media and in newspaper articles. Australia have been focused for the greater periods and it’s paying off. Keep the focus because England are showing they have the attention span of a 2 year old child and it’s cost them 2 Tests…

@ Hawksey....can you stop your whinging........move on.....no laws were broken.....over 10 days of cricket, Australia has been the better team....the series is alive...

I think its fair to say that the Aussies have accepted the Stark non-catch better than the English have accepted the Bairstow stumping...yet both required an interpretation of the laws....both were referred to the 3rd umpire....at what point does 'what is good for the goose' override the concept of 'in the spirit of the game'?

This from an English Journalist....its a great piece...Jonathan Liew

The culture of English cricket is but one concept of morality – no person, and certainly no country, has a monopoly on virtue

I'm not a cricket fan and if the laws say it's out and the umpires say it's out, quit complaining.

The lesson to come from it, apart from the obvious staying in your crease, is that the umpire on seeing the ball ducked and caught, Bairstow scraping his crease and obviously not attempting a run, probably should have called 'over' immediately, rather than fiddling about getting the bowler's cap and sunnies out, I don't think he was even watching when the ball hit the wicket.

Ironic that a professional wicketkeeper is stumped by another wicketkeeper acting professionally.

We can all agree the correct decisions were made by the umpires regarding the stumping and droped catch.

Onto the next test and hopefully we can seal the series win and I don't doubt that it will be another good test.
