Saturday and Sunday in 2024. Why?

Post by Olimpico »

I understand the history of how it started, but is it still necessary to have split leagues on specific days? Could they not come together by now and increase the standard? Have three divisions then split north/south below? Merge Collegiate? I’m not OCD but man I’d love it all to be neat and more prestigious.

Used to play Sundays, currently playing Saturdays, will never go back to Sunday lol

Sunday - Finish a game, it's 5pm, maybe have 2 beers, go home and get ready to go to work the next day

Saturday - Can do something Friday night, spend the whole Saturday playing / watching / drinking, everyone is keen to hang around in to the evening as you celebrate the wins, then you wake up Sunday, do some housework then go watch a Sunday 3pm game thinking how glad I am I didn't have to go to work that day because god I'm sore

Why Sundays? Well perhaps it gives all those who work on Saturdays a chance to play.

Yeah but don't the top divisions take it seriously these days? Or is it all still just "a chance to play"?

Gives a chance for those playing Federation to get a game on Sunday as well.

saturday league took off after Fed metropitan league folded, mainly college and third div feds.

Sunday amateurs been around for years always stronger, bigger clubs , well supported.

I use to play Sunday saasl so I could support the federation teams (northern areas ) on Saturdays.
Then I had a season with a federation club, and would go watch my former saasl club on Sundays.
Also tried a couple Sat. saasl, very different, back when there very few spectators, everyone left once their game had finished.
With Sunday saasl, supporters and players supporting their Senior team, and post match drinks wherever you played, , has always been healthy, for as long as I can remember, all adds to the enjoyment of the sport.
Took a while for Sat. saasl to catch on, a lot of them do a great job now.
cheers.
