Re: England Squad
Anybody who picks Maguire over Braithwaite, or Gallagher over Wharton, doesn't really inspire me. Southgate the Second until proven otherwise. The only good thing is that Bellingham is missing, so we might get to see some midfield passing instead of running for the sake of it.ozzie owl wrote: Fri Aug 30, 2024 11:24 am First Squad under Caretaker Manager Carsley

No service at all to Kane, but Rice looks a much better player without Bellingham.ozzie owl wrote: Sun Sep 08, 2024 6:55 pm Comfortable 2-0 win over Ireland , despite yet another poor game by Harry Kaine .

Re: England Squad
Maguire is rubbish. And Grealish is just a poor man’s version of Saka, so predictable coming inside off the left. And untidy with socks at half-mast with kid-size shinpads. Dunno what master Manager Pep sees in him.haywood djablowme wrote: Fri Aug 30, 2024 7:08 pm Any squad with no Spurs is a good squad

ps, what’s this about Carsley not singing “God Save The King”? Hasn’t he seen how other Managers and players belt out their anthem with real gusto?
pps Cyril, you would have noted the Arsenal skipper is injured and in doubt for the derby at 10.30pm Adelaide time this Sunday night?

I was thinking of where the departed Manager (Gareth something
...what’s his name?) usually played him - on the left, just as master Manager Pep usually plays him.

England has plenty of choices for midfield and attack however in defense options are limited due to injuries and lack of game time for some players.

Re: England Squad
Personally, much as I rate Kane, he's not going to be around for much longer at International level, so why not start now and put Foden and Palmer in tandem up front with Saka right and Gordon or Eze on the left?ozzie owl wrote: Tue Oct 01, 2024 4:30 pmSurely time for England to play Palmer as the number 10.

Personally, I'd pick Wharton in the middle over some of the others, but I suspect we'll end up with Bellingham.

Re: England Squad
England 1 Greece 2
One word sums England this morning shambles.
With what looked like 4-1-5-0 this morning England were terrible it looked like a contest to see how any attacking players England to wedge into one side. I had no idea where Palmer was playing, Foden and Bellingham don't work together.
As for the defence as make shift left back ( Lewis) and Stones showed why he is bench player.
Why didn't Watkins start?
Only positive was the cracking goal by Bellingham ( didn't do much else).

Only highlights were the TAA free kick goal and the debt pass from Angel to set up Grealish. Other than falling over constantly it was (yet) another invisible game by Bellingham in the number 10 role.

Re: England Squad
IMO the 10 position requires vision and spatial awareness above all else, then the technical ability to implement that vision and I really don't think Bellingham has either. He's not a passing player that creates space and time for others, he takes it from them.ozzie owl wrote: Mon Oct 14, 2024 9:43 amAnother drab performance which matched the shirt colour.Nice One Cyril wrote: Fri Oct 11, 2024 3:36 pmBellingham thinks the whole game is about him, plays like his Dad has promised him sixpence if he scores.Con M wrote: Fri Oct 11, 2024 12:22 pmAnd not sure, did Bellingham’s goal take a deflection on the way to the goalkeeper’s glove.ozzie owl wrote: Fri Oct 11, 2024 8:52 am England 1 Greece 2

Re: England Squad
Wow the reality is that with so few English managers in the EPL where do the FA turn? Other than Eddie Howe the other English managers in EPL are at teams at the bottom end of the table.
Looks like the FA think they have the depth in talent to have a serious challenge for the WC in 2026 and have rolled the dice on a proven winner with big club sides.
