What is the MAIN goal in coaching soccer

As coaches, we all have common traits as to what we are trying to achieve as coaches. Some are obvious, some will be personal.

In your opinion, what is the MAIN goal in coaching soccer?

Hard to give you just one main goal Bill but I've thought about it!

For Juniors - Try to teach kids all the things about the game including, techincally correct skills, attitude, game awareness, etc so as they grow into adult players they dont form bad habits and hopefully turn into good players!

For seniors - Try and develope up and coming players with all that is required of them to break into a first team and beyond!

considering that very few of us will ever coach a junior player who will go on and earn a professional income, imo, its important that we strive to:
communicate the importance of physical excercise
teach players to respect their peers and authority figures in the game eg: coach and officials
teach players that its just as important not to be a bad winner as it is a sore loser
teach players the importance of team work and discipline

oh yeah........

teach the game with an emphasis on having FUN!!!

Depends on the age group. Most points have already been mentioned; technical skills, discipline, correct attitude, game awareness, etc.

A junior coach's first priority should be to DEVELOP the player first, winning comes later.

For those that reckon winning is everything; draws and loses are part of learning.

I believe the title of the thread is "What is the MAIN goal in coaching soccer" nothing about juniors specifically.

From a what to teach perspective:
To enjoy the game first.
Learn basic skills.
Develop skills (ongoing).
Practice practice practice.
Listen to positive people/influences.
Learn how to lose and win gracefully.
If all else fails, refer to rule no 1.

Football is a team sport.

I would say a high morale amongst the club which is achieved through equal attenion and respect to all players and their thoughts. Success can only be earnt from a high morale at the club.
