While there I asked one of the NSW THunder teams if they played futsal all year long. They replied that no, they play outdoor club soccer from April to Sept, then futsal from Oct to March.

6 months of each type of soccer, and no break from competitive matches all year long. This is why they are the best prepared. I cant see why we cant run a 6 month futsal season up until competitive club soccer games begin.

The futsal supplements pre-season training and retains match-condition games every week all year around.

We can all argue "too much soccer for kids, burn out, injuries, blah blah blah" but the end of the day, the strength of the teams who do it when up against us who dont proves the point.

An Italian coach who came here and saw our junior soccer club setups was amazed that our kids did not train every day of the week.

More is better......if we want to compete with the East.

15 Boys
6 Jan 09 8:30PM Queensland 3 - 2 South Australia
S.Aust 18 shots to 5
1-0 up at half time
Failure to put away chances cost dearly.
QLD sneaked in a winner with 2 minutes to go. :(

7 Jan 09 9:50AM South Australia 1 - 9 NSW Thunder
Last years and this years winners. NSW Thunder too strong for S.Aust

7 Jan 09 2:00PM NSW Lightning 3 - 5 South Australia :D
Last years runners up behind all the way, scored two late goals to get close.

7 Jan 09 5:20PM South Australia 5 - 4 Northern NSW Hornets :D
First defeat for NSW Hornets and a decisive win for S.Aust.
S.Aust ahead all the way and held on for close win.
This result put S.Aust third over NSW Hornets in the semi's

8 Jan 09 9:00AM ACT Cobras 4 - 5 South Australia :D :D
Great game with only 2 fouls recorded for whole game.
No more than one goal in it with ACT Cobras leading 4-3 with 3 minutes to go.
Goal from Yamin Jamal 30 seconds from time stole the vital three points for S.Aust.

8 Jan 09 12:20PM Western Australia 4 - 7 South Australia :D
0 - 2 down after 10 minutes before S.Aust got into gear and took control of game.

8 Jan 09 4:30PM South Australia 3 - 10 Victoria
3rd game in a long day for S.Aust (Vic's had a bye) boys tired, Victoria too strong.

9 Jan 09 9:00AM Southern NSW 7 - 8 South Australia :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
A win required by S.Aust to qualify for the semi's
Southern NSW 6 - 1 up at half time, S.Aust practically out of competition,
Pulled game back to a stunning 6 -6 score line with 5 to go and drew the 6th foul. :)
Penalty & rebound saved by 'keeper who then threw the ball long to forward who glanced a brilliant header past on-rushing 'keeper Sangermano, 7 - 6. NSW. :x
(this is where the rather happy NSW spectator ran onto pitch and pumped his fists at the S.Aust bench) :clown:

S.Aust hit the afterburner and cut through the NSW team twice in 2 minutes with Yamin Jamal and Brandon Pirone nailing two quick goals to silence the NSW supporters. After hearing of the come back during the second half there were an estimated 50-60 supporters cheering on the S.Aust boys.

Round 9. S.Aust - Bye 8)

NSW Thunder coach plays his weaker players (rather ammusing as they would be inthe starting line-up for all the other teams) to save meeting Victoria in the semi's.
Victoria beat NSW Thunder 7 - 4. :?

Victoria 7 - 2 S.Aust
Again Vic's too strong, half time 2 - 0 to Vic's then @ 60 S.Aust supporters enter the stadium cheering and waving flags to support the U15's.

A great effort by the S. Aust team. 8)

Grand Final

NSW Thunder 9 - 2 Victoria. :D  :D  :D  :D

A lesson in quality Futsal from the NSW Thunder.

S. Aust MVP - Captain Hayden Bryan (Para Hills) :)

I can only surmise that the high travelling costs involved to represent the state team ( i was told $ 1,500 per player ) must have an effect on the attendence of interested players at state trials.

This could have an effect on a truly representative team of the better players playing futsal in the local competetions.

If the costs could be subsidised by ffsa then perhaps we would have better results at the state futsal championship games by having the best players representing the state.

Good call,

If they cannot afford it then you cannot pick them i s'pose.

It was mentioned earlier that you can only pick those that turn up for trials, some parents would not see the point in going to trials for the State Futsal if they could not afford it.

Lets face it $1,500 before Xmas is a big ask.

Players can get individual sponsorships if they like i would of thought.

Realistically, it is because we have so little time to prepare. We need a good 6 months AND a competition that coincides with the majority of this time.

The extra time for preparation would in turn make it easier to afford as you could make payments stretch out a little longer - the actual cost this year was $1450.00.

And obviously, it would be better if the FFSA could help too. Also, more major sponsors would help massively. Unfortunately, this is the plight of our round ball game - outside or indoor.

PS: If Barney could shave down and get on the court to help; I'm sure he would.

Was talking to Ray last night at the united game. He said Michael Carter was impressed with the tournament and was keen on getting an open men's team from South Australia to go the 2010 Nationals. He also said they will support Futsal SA more than what they are now. Which is a step in the right direction.

Will they have a junior comp run through the year in 2009, not just a 2 month comp ???

Dunno yet I think that was on the cards aswell. The main thing was support from the outdoor clubs to encourage the game in the off season.

Should be one youth team of 12,13 players. Instead of sending two teams with one being the 'younger' side which has shiraz all chance of winning the title, quite pointless. A strong team of 12,13 players would go close and players will remain fresh throughout the competition.
