Liverpool Prepared To Sell Xabi Alonso To Real Madrid

Los Merengues could be about to land their dream midfielder, but it won't be cheap...

Real Madrid could be a step closer to signing Xabi Alonso, with the Liverpool board apparently having agreed on a suitable asking price for the midfielder.

According to AS, Tom Hicks, George Gillett and Rafa Benitez met this week to discuss the plans for the future, with the Reds seeking to sell up to 11 players to ease costs and reserve funds for the construction of New Anfield.

Thus, Alonso's price has been set at €30 million. The Basque star has always been a target for Madrid, although they are not prepared to pay that price.

Alonso has expressed his desire to return to Spain in the past, having made his way through the ranks at Real Sociedad, and Los Merengues might offer him the opportunity to do so.

I totally agree Xabi has been invaluable to our midfield... Lucas is no way ready to step up and with Mascherano as the only cover defensively i cannot see them getting rid of him, unless ofcourse we get a suitable replacement...

It all depends on Rafa at the end of the day, regardless of what buggaluggs wants. He has been the best midfielder in Europe this year no doubt and has galvanised Liverpool.

Barry in for 8-10m and Lucas out for 8m (villareal apparently) strenghtens the middle and gives us another option on the left (not that we need one with Emmy Insua) and Barry does hit a good corner kick.

With Lucas out it would also give an opportunity to Jay Spearing who is a local lad who i believe is a better option than Lucas.

Your kidding right? He's been injured this season, but last year he was a very important player to our squad in the Premier League and the Champions League. He played a very big roll in the Champions League final also.
