Owen to Man Utd

Post by Victoria's Secret »

bit of a shock, but worth a gamble for them. If he stays fit and starts enjoying the game again he will do well. But if Utd sell Tevez and Ronaldo and end up with Valencia and Owen I think they are weaker.

wouldn't be a bad pick up, u know he'd be happy to sit on the bench and when he is used will probably bag at least 10 goals for the season. providing he stays fit. if anything it will be company for hargraeves on the treatment table.

Would be very surprised if they sign him. His best football past him a few years back now, surley he would be no more than a bench warmer?!

of course he would be a bench warmer, with rooney and berb both fit they'd be starting for sure.

i dont think its that bad he did the same thing with larsson and owen is better then larsson

he is gonna come be a squad player. Owen knows where the goals are so when given the chance he will get united goals and he probably wont give the work tevez gave but in all honesty if fit will probably get more goals

What every one is forgeting is that SAF still has 80 million pounds to play with he got valencia with money he already had and got owen for free so im sure many more players will be coming in
I speak nothing but the truth

Worth a gamble. Free transfer and pay as you play apparently!

Will score more goals than Tevez and be happy to come off the bench.

Also after Luis Fabiano, if you can believe anything the press write these days.

Interesting one. Don't think it's a bad move on the part of United, I would still take him if he stays fit. Good news for England too I guess, strengthening a potential partnership with Rooney - which used to be one of the deadliest strike forces in international football.

Sounds like a good bit of business to me. Free transfer and incentive based.

Until he proves himself though, I hope the logical choice is to start from the bench.

And since he's here now, he can go on the Asia Tour.

And the comment about replacing Ronaldo with Owen is crap. One's a wide man and the other is a striker.
Who?... Who is but a form, followed by the function of what... And what I am, is a man in a mask!

good signing! wouldn't think it would cost you too much. not a bad player to have as a bit-man in the squad.

How come Fergie has to look for a bargain?

Sir Alex Ferguson's shopping trip hadn't gone well. As the doors flew open on the big Summer Sale he went down in a flurry of handbags and was trampled underfoot in the rush.
MICHAEL OWEN By the time the bewildered old campaigner was helped back to his feet, the shelves had been stripped bare of all the fancy designer goods he so desperately wanted to buy.
A disconsolate rummage in the returns bin did nothing to lift his spirits, but he decided he'd better bring something home anyway, picking up the equivalent of a cracked porcelain teapot with a broken lid for practically nothing.
'It was a bargain,' he proclaimed weakly, waving his carrier bag in the air, trying to ignore the alarming crunching sounds coming from inside.
'A bit of glue and it might be worth a few bob,' he insisted. 'Besides, we won't use it much. It's only for special occasions.'
And so the Michael Owen deal was done. Who would have thought Old Trafford would be the scene of the most ridiculous piece of Bargain Hunt scavenging football has seen for many a season? The only possible explanation is that David Dickinson has secretly joined the Old Trafford coaching staff.
This was the summer in which all the talk at Old Trafford was of the mega-deals that would fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo's departure.
Remember how every newspaper compiled glamorous hit-lists of stars beating a path to Old Trafford? Remember the transfer chatter about players performing at the peak of their powers like Karim Benzema, Franck Ribery and David Villa?
Well, it was hot air, the lot of it.
All United have to show for £80million worth of pre-season prattle is an overpriced winger from Wigan Athletic that they could have picked up at any time over the past year and an eternally crocked striker, who has been subject to more doctors' scrutiny than Ralph Fiennes in The English Patient.
Is that really the best they could do?

even souness was disappointed that liverpool didnt sign him up
for all his injuries this season, he score 10 goals for newcastle... with a proper pre season and playin with the players at united, he will b gettin more chances
thinks its great business, we've jst signed 1 of englands all time leadin goal scorer for free and still have all the money from the ronaldo deal 2 spend

never said it wasn't a good deal on sir alex's part..just saying his use by date is well dated...he wants back into england and youth is the future and his is beyond him. his speed is what made him such a great asset as a package and that is well past him..probably score more than berbatov though.
free v's $30mill..will be interesting to watch this year..

souness good player but then his managing skills i wouldn't go by what he thinks is a good or bad decision as he was the one who refused to sign Deco at Benfica. he is just trying to justify it as he was the one who brought him to newcastle for $17mill and flopped..

liverpool already have done it with Robbie and didn't work and the same would of been with Michael..their anfield days are are best remembered in their peak and their careers better resurected elsewhere where they are not trying to re kindle old memories.
