Oman vs Australia - Asian Cup Qualifier

Post by Red-4-Life »

30 mins til kick off.

Kewell is playing as a lone striker, i was hoping for maybe a 2 pronged attack but oh well. I rekon the Socceroos will get up 2-0 in a not so entertaining match.

Come on Aussies!!

Well you were certainly wrong there. Good game to watch so far. Aussies attacking reasonably well considering the circumstances. Although they do look like they can conceed more on the counter. Will be an interesting 2nd half.

2-0, 2-1 who cares, got the 3 points :D
great win against the odds after 20 minutes, true fighting spirit and thats why we are the best in asia! would have been fitting if Cahill scored the winner though, would have really pissed off the Omani's. Was a better game than in Melbourne.

Top of the group now

well, we are clear top now :D but if Kuwait win their game in hand we go 2nd.
Oman dominated for a decent period in the 2nd hald but Schwarzer was man of the match and saved Australia. We gave them that old sucker punch again to break their hearts! And Oman's coach was talking to the 4th official all game...and he has a go at us for Kewell and Cahill trying to ref the game?
If only Cahill scored the winner...would have been a fitting end to the match to piss the Omani's right off!

any comments on the penalty and red card? i thought ref got it right, he was about to pull the trigger, williams didn't anticipate the striker slowing down to control the ball and ploughed into him...

straight red was right call. Denying an obvious goal scoring oppurtunity. was a very clumsy tackle

Interesting question Doc. Can't agree with you Red-4-Life about a red card as well as a penalty. That's double Jeopardy. There was nothing vicious about the bumbling tackle. That law about a red card to a last defender illegally stopping an attack was intended as a more severe sanction for a foul by a last defender OUTSIDE the penalty area. The Laws Board, the International FA Board is reviewing this law. I believe a penalty and a YELLOW card for a foul by a last defender inside the penalty area is punishment enough.

i can see where your coming from but it was a clumsy challenge and an obvious goal scoring opportunity was denied, doesnt necessarily have to be vicious.

There is no law regarding the last man. The laws states 'denying a obvious goalscoring opportunity', whether it's inside the box or outside the box is irrelevant.

That's why they are reviewing it, Microwave Hampster n Red-4-Life. Last man outside the box = red, inside the box = yellow and penalty. Watch the IFAB ( International FA Board) March 2010 agenda carefully. No more "double jeopardy".

okay cool.

But i saw the reason for the red card "denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity" but its up to whoever is in charge. Lucky it didn't affect Australia if it was a wrong decision.

I guess you don't know the meaning of double jeopardy either. Double whammy is probably the term you are looking for.

One other way to avoid it is to not commit fouls in the box

Did any of you forumites see the Fox 'Matchday Saturday' program 22/11? Slater and Bosnich said Luke Wilkshire admitted hand-balling his 'goal' against Oman. Wot's the diff from Thierry's?

Oman didnt seem to make much of a deal of it if it was a handball and Thierry Henry has a much bigger reputation and profile on the world stage. Also, perhaps the fact a world cup spot was on the line...
