Blatter moves the goal-posts (timing of World Cup)
I see His Royal Highness, Lord Blatter of the FIFA fiefdom is now proposing to move the Qatar World Cup to January to avoid the 50-degree heat.
That should do wonders in antagonizing the powerful Euro & EPL leagues.
Isn't that changing the rules for selecting a host after they've been selected? How many of the dopey FIFA ExCo members from Europe would still have voted for Qatar had they known this?

Re: Blatter moves the goal-posts (timing of World Cup)
The African Nations Cup usually get played in january. I don't think there's any rule that says the world cup has to be played in june. If Scandinavian countries and Russia can work their seasons around the world cup every four years I can't see why other countries can't deal with it once in a blue moon.
No country who has never qualified for the world cup should be allowed to host it at the expense of one who has.
Sod Japan, sod Qatar, sod Blatter and his cronies!

Money doesnt talk it swears. This has to be the worst scandal in football history, Quatar hosting 2022 WC.

Not the 2022 World Cup...its the 2021.5 World Cup.
I wonder if the voting would have been the same if this was part of their bid ?

I think the voting went this way because the ExCo members already knew about this change... don't think for a second that this "scheme" wasn't discussed in the halls of FIFA BEFORE the vote, hence the heat was never an issue going against Qatar!swannsong wrote:Not the 2022 World Cup...its the 2021.5 World Cup.

Try doing your homework before trying to be a smart. They were awarded the 2002 tournament long before the 1998 qualifying had started.LeicesterCity wrote:No country who has never qualified for the world cup should be allowed to host it at the expense of one who has.

Who said the the Euro leagues can work around the world cup? I'm telling you, that's not going to happen. The World Cup has always worked around the big leagues, there is no point in changing that. I can see a boycott coming...

I cannot see the big European clubs and their associations agreeing to this.
They will probably organise a boycott of the tournament or withdraw from FIFA - or at least threaten to.

It's a world cup... which shouldn't have to revolve around Europe.Old Master wrote:I cannot see the big European clubs and their associations agreeing to this.

And a World Cup should not interfere 90% of the worlds leagues.Die Toten Hosen wrote:It's a world cup... which shouldn't have to revolve around Europe.Old Master wrote:I cannot see the big European clubs and their associations agreeing to this.

Leagues rearrange their seasons in world cup years regardless.
90%???? Don't kid yourself.

Most of the old men who made the decision re 2022 will be dead anyway by the time it comes around, so I'm sure some sense will be injected into the debate soon enough.

What do you suggest? That every League is put on hold for two months majorly interrupting the season? Or continue the season so many teams are at a disadvantage without key players?Die Toten Hosen wrote:Leagues rearrange their seasons in world cup years regardless.

And think of the Leagues that would be interrupted!
England
Spain
Germany
France
Portugal
Czech Republic etc.
The main point is that rescheduling the world cup is more trouble than it's worth.

Having said that, if the climate dictates it then so be it. Scandinavia, Russia and the like do it every two years. There's no reason why other countries can't do it once in a blue moon. Many European leagues have a winter break anyway.

They have a break that last 2 weeks. A break for the world cup would last 1-2 months. You wouldn't move the date of christmas would you.

The world cup is for everybody, not just those who play their seasons from august to may and as I said above many countries have breaks in their season when the world cup and Euros have been played so it can be done.Yids wrote:They have a break that last 2 weeks. I'm not disputing that, I'm saying there's no reason is should have to revolve around some of Europe.Yids wrote:A majority of Europe is not going to see it this way. They would rather the World Cup in June-July

But there is. Any possible changes in the timing of the WC due to the host should have been discussed and agreed upon by all involved prior to the host being announced.Die Toten Hosen wrote:I'm not disputing that, I'm saying there's no reason is should have to revolve around some of Europe.Yids wrote:A majority of Europe is not going to see it this way. If fifa have written rules that state the world cup must be played in june you may have a point, but I don't think they do.JovaBonito wrote:But there is.
