worth a gamble for the return on investment it would generate

we just had a crap bid and the Qatar bit was too tempting seeing they are going to just give away the stadiums to poor nations which would help promote the game

I wouldn't expect a bid any time soon, considering the public backlash (however ill informed it is) to how much it cost.
China are supposedly preparing to bid for 2026, and FIFA are keen to send the Cup there, so wouldn't be worth contesting it especially against a country in our confederation. If China do get 2026, then 2030 wont be a realistic chance becase they won't play the cup in the Asian confederation for another 8 to 12 years at least. Probably the best we can hope for is a chance in 2038 or 2042.

Would rather concentrate on qualifying for WC's instead of hosting them. Realistically, we are 30 years away from trying again (and a good chance of being successful)

Reckon by next bidding process they'll get rid of Oceania, roll it into Asia then split it in half from say India to create two confeds.

You'd assume USA would get 2026.
Maybe a Europe vs East Asia Pacific confed in 2030 (Eng/Spa vs Aust/China)??
Then 2034 would be the confed who missed out on the one prior.

every 3rd one is in europe, then a round robin in the 2 in between to get through all the other confeds, so 2026 will prob be africa/north america, then europe 2030 then maybe 2034 for asia again

We cant bid for 2026 or 2030. Earliest we can bid for is 2034. Which will go to Uruguay as a special 25th World Cup / 100 years celebration. So we will get a chance to bid for 2038.

2034 will only be the 24th world cup.

Were they 'canned' as such? Or was it simply not held because the world was at war?

Even if they were played 2034 still wouldn't have been the 25th tournament.

Mix up with dates - bottom line is that we wont be hosting it until most of us on the forum have left this world.
