Socceroos v Soth Korea

Post by UNITEDCITY »

I have a funny feeling we will lose and lose quite easily to this very decent side.

I think the Socceroos are not sure if they want old or new and are kinda of a mixed up inbetween of playing all in the wrong spots!!

Lucky to get out the group stage, lucky to make 2014.

Thoughts or am i just talking crap!!!

It's almost refreshing that we are underdogs - last time we were favourites (at least in our own minds) and crashed and burnt

The 'old' players are rightfully playing - we will rebuild afterwards

With the exception of Carney and Jedinak I think the team looks quite good

I agree with Kitch we should win

The team still looks unbalanced on the left. Young Tommy Oar should be considered.

But the line-up we saw v. India is what we'll get v. South Korea. The Holster said he wants them to find their rythm and will opt for continuity, but does he still have problems on the left?

Was Holman meant to be out there, even though he hasn't a left peg? Or was he meant to drift in behind Kewell and Cahill, leaving room for Carney to overlap?

The South Koreans will target Carney's side if we persist with this, so it's a real worry.

And I wonder if it's been spelt out to Scotty Mc there is no "I" in team?

Scotty Mac, should of passed that ball across, as i think you are meaning that moment mate.

I agree Holman is out of positiion and carney is just a worrry to be honest.

Kewell and cahill could work but its hardly the future for Australia is it.

Are we like the Australian Cricket team, look what happened to them after retirements and no young blood given a chance to take over the reins!!!!

yep the left side is a real issue. carney is completely cabernet at left back and holman is not good as a left winger, he should be playing behind the strikers.

he has options of shifting the team around but injuries and players pulling out forced his hand, vidosic and kennedy would have started, meaning kewell out left, holman behing cahill and kennedy, or vidosic startic left etc etc...

option he does have is moving holman inside kewell on the left and starting scotty mac to harass the defence, but i doubt it, left back is an issue as carney is a more attacking player, but the lack of game time is showing, was afraid to overlap against india and will not again against south korea, even when holman drifts inside as he has a bit of a floating role, our right side looks awesome but mkorea will be aware of this and will try and nullify wilkshires overlap

would have been nice to have kennedy as a 2nd target man for this tournament... i hope we do well tonight, but I feel we will lose by around 2 goals

Didn't Holman score and have important inputs into 2 other goals?

I would say this made him very effective from the left.

neill.... ognenovski...mckain/spiranovic... wilkshire

neill was always a right back in the past in particular when he played at blackburn. i guess its a bit late for this now but it would be how i would setup the team.

Are Man City playing tonight? Australia certainly aren't

South Korea are a decent team, will be a big test, although I think we will win 1-0

A win doesn't guarantee qualifying for the next round unless Bahrain drop points against India.

Rubbish defending and attacking.

Kewell has had 2 great chances to score and has failed to deliver, Cahill took 1 touch too many in front of goal and got tackled. Should have also had a penalty as well.

Boring game for most parts...

I wouldnt call the attacking rubbish. Socceroos are creating enough chances against a team that is far superior everywhere else.

A bit worried about having Valeri and Jedinak as DM's. Jedinak been sub-par and Valeri hasn't played for months, not to mention card prone. Would rather have seen Mackay come on.
Suppose we'll see how it pans out.

I'll take the result, better 2nd half and was better to watch. Injury toll looks bad though :(

Overall a reasonable performance i think. Korea had a real threatening attack. We battled pretty hard and when we got hold of the ball played some good passages and created opportunities.
If i could say one thing it would be that as a big supporter of Harry kewell he showed tonight that as someone who is a winger he can be a damn good centre forward. I would much prefer him running at players, but he won so many ariel challenges and fought hard to win the ball.
Carney and Jedinak were definite weak points. Jedinaks goal was a johnny on the spot and other than that didn't really contribute, in fact gave the ball away in crucial positions.
We were unable to make an attacking or proactive sub with Culina, Wilkshere and Carney injured.
Bahrain will be a tough test, hopefully we play strong and get through on top of Sth Korea.

i think we did a pretty good job, i wish we could have held onto possession a bit more. also i dont think we did a great job in winning the ball back in koreas final third.
