Darren Bent

Post by SpursOnTheRise »

Most over priced and overrated player in the last few years, £16m to Spurs was stupid, and now Villa have paid £24? How is it that he can command such transfer fee's, it's shiraz stupid. But goodluck to Villa i guess, Bent isn't a bad goal scorer but the prices paid for him are so inflated. Kinda glad this happened coz Spurs will cop £6m outta this deal.

Whatever Spurs fans thought of him (and not everyone thought he was useless) he's scored more goals in the last five years than everyone except Rooney, Drogba and Sandra Redknapp.

As you say, an excellent outcome for Spurs financially.

Not £6m but still a canny sum.

Tottenham in line for Sunderland sell-on fee
»Tottenham will benefit from Darren Bent’s departure from Sunderland to the tune of a seven-figure payment, which formed part of the agreement when the striker left White Hart Lane.

Bent left Spurs for an initial £10 million, rising to a possible £16.5 million with payments for appearances, goals, international caps and a slice of any sell-on fee.

Spurs have already received extra monies, believed to be around £2 million, and could receive 20 per cent of any profit Sunderland make. So if he goes for £20 million, Spurs may be in line for 20 per cent of the £8 million profit, a useful £1.6 million.

been awesome at sunderland, but left really quickly, obviously something not right behind the scenes

have to praise bruce for making him a star again

looks a bit dirty and rude to sunderland to leave like he did, looks like he has walked out on them when they are in a good position just for money to struggling aston villa

I hear the Darren Bent story is all a big misunderstanding. Houllier asked for £20million to buy a striker, and Randy Lerner told him to get bent.

I've heard Gary Glitter wants to take over at Villa - he heard their strikers are young and bent

Sounds like a Bobby Robson story: "Young, big black lad, plays up front." Gets Carl Cort instead of Jason Euell?

we will see, its the first time Bent has played for a decent club with crosses coming in from Downing and the like he will be able to dominate

on current form Bent is better

What garbage. Do you ever watch Bent or are you just talking for the sake of it? He's decidedly average in the air from crosses. The reason he scored so many goals at Charlton and Sunderland is that he gets in behind defences and can use his pace, but to do that he needs to play for a team that sits back and plays long balls. At Spurs, where the midfield was better and could keep the ball, his movement was awful and because Spurs pressed other teams back more than most, he didn't have the space behind the defence. Put a defender in front of him and he's not much. Put him behind a defender and he's a handful.

Personally, I thought, given that we didn't play his "style" of football at Spurs, he did quite well, but he's very one dimensional. Having said that, I hope he scores a hattrick against the Citizens.

Defoe has injuries this season, but he is easily better than Bent. Had he been fit, how would have scored a tonne of goals.

Again with stats.

Do Mancs actually understand football, or base their opinions purely on stats?
