Winding players up
Is this legal? As long as you don't say anything racist, homophobic etc, are you allowed to call them cheats or whatever to wind them up so they hit you and get sent off?

Yes, if the referee deems your behaviour to be one of the following -Der_Tiser wrote:Is this legal? As long as you don't say anything racist, homophobic etc, are you allowed to call them cheats or whatever to wind them up so they hit you and get sent off?

• serious foul play
• violent conduct
• spitting at an opponent or any other person
• using offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures
Re: Winding players up
dissent is only towards the referee, it's not serious foul play, violent conduct or spitting
unsporting behaviour is extreme grey area
where is the line with offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures?
if any kind of this gets you red, not a single player in any of the amatuer leagues in SA would avoid getting sent off at least 5 times a season

It was Vizzari.
I think it was for impersonating a footballer.
Time for some righteous indignation

Re: Winding players up
They did try to enforce a couple of years ago that if you swore and it was able to be heard by a spectartor you would be booked, that rule was f k d for goal keepers!Alba gu brath wrote:We had a player booked this week for swearing at his own player.
Dave Alberton gives you a warning for swearing in general, never seen him actually book some one for it but he manages to stop it.
Re: Winding players up
Didn't Eric Cantona get sent-off for "serious foul play" against a spectator?Der_Tiser wrote:dissent is only towards the referee, it's not serious foul play, violent conduct or spitting

it's grey for a reason, it's all emcompassing. This is a prime example of unsporting behaviour and a clear yellow card.
As for swearing, technically any fould language is a red card. However, most refs will accept it as part of football and allow it or at worse give a caution.
