Canon 40d is out

Post by admin »

I see the new Canon EOS 40d is out.

Think I will swap my 20d for the 40d.

Like that it is faster, has sensor auto cleaning function, larger lcd screen - the screen on the 20d is just too small and much larger buffer.

One review:

awwwwww crap
A 10.1 Megapixel Canon developed CMOS sensor and DiG!C III Image Processor combine to deliver superb image quality with low noise and natural colour. Key new features include the EOS Integrated Cleaning System and Live View Shooting (with AF capabilities). With the ability to capture up to 6.5fps in incredible 14-bit colour, the EOS 40D is the only option for the enthusiast photographer.
sounds good... very good

Its not a big leap forward compared to the 30d - but the combination of the gains from 30d to 40d appear to make it a justifiable upgrade from the 20d.

Upgrade to the 5d must be close - might be more up your alley Thunders.

impetuous... i went and brought a 40D yesterday from Ted's at Marion

end result... not much different from 30D as far as image goes...

http://www.footballnews.com.au/gallery/v/20070909w/

speed was great... still very noisy shutter...

there are some other minor improvements over the 30D from a users point... so all in all happy with it...

do need to tweak some settings... and read the manual...

Cleaning system is a big one for me. I quite often get dust in the camera.

Air shows are a classic for that - there is always a lot of dust around and the only way to avoid it is not changing lens.

Dont mind cleaning the sensor but its not really practical when you in the middle of a shooting session.

Looking at the photos - they appear to be sharper - are you manual or auto focusing? Maybe the 40d is faster focusing?

well that was my 1st impressions while using it... just felt like everything was happening quicker... less wasted shots...

the shots looked great on the LCD, but i didn't notice a huge difference once i started working on them to upload...

but it is interesting that you noticed a difference... i think i need to open up the F stop to add a bit more depth of field...

as an example...

Image

i think that both players should be sharp... rather than the just the Para Hills player...

I think the player that is facing you should be sharp whereas the other player - because you cant see the face - is of much less significance. In fact it might make the picture more interesting if the other player (and the spectator behind was even further out of focus ie less distracting.

I did feel there was a difference when I went through your photos. Maybe the lighting was a factor because Malvern Fox also had one of his best series of shots this weekend. But my initial thoughts was it looked like the focus and shutter are working a lot faster and the gap between the focus and the shot is much smaller - so the action is getting caught in focus.

I agree with Admin. that try shooting with less depth of field and have as much as poss. out of focus.
I love shooting almost into the sun--without flaring!
You have some great shots there Thunders---well done

Bought the 40d today.

Very nice camera. Charged up the battery but yet to give it a real whirl.

Shutter is definitely quieter and the LCD screen is a big improvement on the 20d.

Nikon has lagged Canon for a few years. Nikon are only just catching up now.

The Nikon D300 looks like a very good camera. Its almost as good as the 40d :D buts its $1000 dearer!

Once you have splashed out for a good lens kit it makes a change very unlikely unless someone produces a camera that is really special.
