WHY DONT WE HAVE A U18 SIDES

Post by RIDER »

why dont we have u18s since their is a huge number of players register.
once players get to u17s we loose a heap of players, because their is no team between 17s & 19s.

if players are that good they will make the jump to 19's football and go from there. its in that gap that you kno which players are good enough.

Spot on the money. Thats why i dont entirely agree with the u16s league as i think the standard of the 19s has dropped because of this. 19s league is too young because people start skipping the u17s and then get stuck in the 19s for a few years. Most players get burnt out very quickly. I would like to see a larger 17s league with possibly 4 divisions or keep the 16s, have 18s instead of 17s and u20s rather than 19s. Any suggestions?

maybe we scrap the 19's for 18's like the english sides do... this is a better idea i think because it captures better youth for the clubs youth development. by 18 you should know if younare good enough or not. so each club has an 18's squad instead of 19's to create stronger youth development.

red & blue army i totally agree with you
an u18 will be better siuted for the next step up.
i think at the moment a lot of players are going from u16s to u19s and the gap in between, leaves a big hole.

yea, its not just how good you are, but the the kids need the mental experience in the gap from 16 to 19, its a major part in life as we all know, well documented are the experiences that teenagers go thro from 16 years of age.

Having U18 sides would be a valuable plus for everyone as it would mean that SASI would not feel the need to play as seperate team in the state league senior competition.
The origins of this institiution are briefky as follows. In 1994 an Intensive Training Centre (ITC) was set up by the Australian Sports Commission to be operated as a joint venture between the SA Sports Institute and the then SA Soccer Federation. Its objective was, and still is, to identify players who are adjudged as having the potential to represent Australia at World Cup competitions in the U17 and U20 age groups. It also identifies players for the Australian Institute of Sport which is based in Canberra. The players involved receive a comprehensive education in all aspects of the game from highly qualified coaches with access to the latest teaching and coaching techniques from “academies” around the world. Scholarships are offered to the players for twelve month periods, but can be renewed.
While applauding the objectives of SASI there must surely be question as to whether the interests of its players and their clubs are best-served by its taking part in the senior competition when it is clearly not a “Club” in the same sense as are all the other teams in the competition.
Selection by SASI does not of itself guarantee success at higher levels, but does provide those with sufficient motivation the opportunity to take advantage of their talents. There is risk that selection at an early age may see the players placed in a rarefied atmosphere where they can lose touch with their peers leading to difficulties in re-adjusting to a club-based competition once their time at SASI is over.
One has ask why SASI is allowed to have what is essentially an under 17 team playing in the state league?
Would it not be better for both players and clubs if the clubs still had the services of their players who would play in their club sides on weekends? That way they would not lose touch with their peers and might even benefit by playing Premier or Super League rather than state league. Their playing as a group seems to cause problems for the refs. T
Some parents have felt that there children who are at SASI do not get enough plaudits from their original clubs. This is unavoidable when the player is at SASI and plays against his home team. They ould obtain mopre recognition if the were playing for their club.

its wud be easy if kids stuk to their age groups becoz if
they played in the 16s and they were 16 they wud build their confidence
then that means they cud play 17s nxt and build on to their confidendence
and then move on to 19s which means that they are playin against ppl that are their age and size so they dont feel nervous everytime they walk on the field
but obviousely if ur a player which dominates in the 16s or 17s by far and can take the physical side of football then by all means u shud be playin 19s

its the same thing in World football u see young hot prospects 17 or 18 years of age move too quickly in their career to a big club and not get any game time so then how can they develop and mature as a player at the big stage?

well what if a player who is playing under 15s for example and is 15 years old but all they do all game every game is take the mickey out of other players?

I say leave the leagues as they are because if your a good player you'll make the 19s squads if your not so good go try your luck somewhere else amatures for example
