Re: Group B: Austria v Poland
If we get similar results to this morning another co-host could crash out. Depending on results either Germany or Croatia could book their passage to the quarterfinals and Poland or Austria could be eliminated. There's quie a few permutations though.

Re: Group B: Austria v Poland
After the first round of matches the co-hosts were pointless and goalless after their first game.
Not a big surprise some may say but the manner in which Austria and Switzerland went down – both 0-1 defeats against Croatia and the Czech respectively – meant their opponents were rather undeserving of their successes.
Collectively, the co-hosts had 17 more shots on goal than their respective adversaries.
In fact, as yet no team has had more attempts on goal in the tournament than Austria with 16 shots in the Ernst Happel Stadion, one more than Netherlands in their stunning display against Italy last night.
Prior to last night no player has had more shots than Austria’s number 10, Andreas Ivanschitz, level with Germany’s Lukas Podolski and Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo.
Interestingly, the Austrians played a stunning 42·9% of their game in the attacking third of the pitch. Not surprising in a way as Josef Hickersberger’s men were chasing the game after conceding in the first five minutes of the game. Nevertheless, they displayed endeavour if not guile.
Austria will have to be much more clinical against Poland if they still want to be in the hunt when their last group game comes along, a daunting task against neighbours Germany.

Germany's loss to Croatia means if Poland lose this match they will follow Switzerland out of the tournamet. If Poland don't win Croatia will qualify for the quaterfinals. If Austria win 3-1 they will go into their final group match with Germany level on points, goal difference and goals scored and may require a penalty shoot out to see who goes through.

Austria have been killing Poalnd in the first half, but it's the Poles who have taken the lead. Sure looked offside to me.

Full time: Austria 1 Poland 1
Croatia win the group. Germany will finish second if they can get at least a draw out of their final match, but should they lose either Austria or Poland could qualify above them.

OSTERREICH!!!! VAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASTIC.....great game, I thought it was going to be carbenet boring but twas good. I thought Austria deserved it though, they created by far the better chances and although they didn't look quite as good in the second half Poland didn't really create a whole lot either. Come on Austria for the win against Germany. 93rd minute penalty anyone? Austria 1-0 Germany

Good to see Austria go through at Polands and Germanys expense. But Germany will be too strong for Austria. Croatia to top group and germay second to face Portugal in the quarters.Madridista612 wrote:OSTERREICH!!!! austria had 3 of arguably the most clear cut chances in the comp yet pity the finishing was toilet, who would you rather watch in the qtrs, portugal v germany or portugal v austria?
