WTF how are Sevilla, Arsenal in pool A and Real Madrid in Pool B.

What a joke the groups the Italian teams draw and the English get out easy.

Bayern
Juve
Bordeax
Maccabbi Hifa

Inter
Barca
Dinamo
Ruban Kazam

AC Milan
Real Madrid
Marseille
FC Zurich

Liverpool
Lyon
Fiorentina
Debreceni

Re: Champions League Draw

Post by Blue Mastiff »

The Champions League draw has hardly been kind to Italian clubs with Milan set to take on Real Madrid’s Kaka and Inter facing Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s Barcelona in the group stages.

The Rossoneri, who sold the Brazilian international to the Spaniards in the summer for £56m, were among the top seeds but have been paired with Real Madrid, Marseille and FC Zurich in Group C.

Inter, on the other hand, will have to play the European champions just months after the two clubs swapped Ibrahimovic and Samuel Eto’o.

Joining the Nou Camp and San Siro giants in Group F are Dinamo Kiev and Russian minnows Rubin Kazan.

Juventus, who are seriously targeting top honours this season after their summer spending spree, won’t have it easy in the group stages either.

The Old Lady have been paired with German giants Bayern Munich, the dangerous Bordeaux and Maccabi Haifa of Israel in Group A.

Fiorentina were expecting a tough section given that they were only among the third seeds and so it proved.

Although Debrecen of Hungary shouldn’t pose too many problems, they’ll also have to face Champions League specialists Liverpool and Lyon – a side they played last term.

Meanwhile, Manchester United will have to navigate some tough away trips but will be confident of qualification for the last 16.

Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti, formerly of Milan, will have to guide the Blues through a pool that contains Porto, Atletico Madrid and APOEL Nicosia.

Group G looks to be the weakest of all the sections with Sevilla, Rangers, Stuttgart and Unirea Urziceni .

And Arsenal will be confident of topping Group H given that they have been paired with AZ Alkmaar, Olympiakos, Standard Liege.

The group stage games will take place on: 15/16 September, 29/30 September, 20/21 October, 3/4 November, 24/25 November, 8/9 December.

Real havent got past the second stage for about 5-6 years and their co-efficient is garbage now.

Arsenal have made 2 semi's and a final in the last three years.

Bit confused about sevilla though.

Sevilla are in Pot 1 mostly because of winning the UEFA Cup, which helped them out alot with their coefficient... also played in europe all 5 of the past years if im not mistaken?..

Tough away trips to consider. Plus we are the only non league champions in our group so the other sqauds should clearly be good under pressure

IT'S NOT BASED ON CHAMPIONSHIP PERFORMANCES!!!
it's based on EUROPEAN RESULTS!!!!!!!

Real Madrid haven't made the Quater finals in a long long time!

Arsenal 2006- final...2007- Last 16.....2008- Quaters....2009- Semi Finals

much better record than Real Madrid!

Bordeaux (FRA)
Maccabi Haifa (ISR)

Group B
Manchester United (ENG)
CSKA Moscow (RUS)
Besiktas (TUR)
VfL Wolfsburg (GER)

Group C
AC Milan (ITA)
Real Madrid (ESP)

Marseille (FRA)
Zurich (SUI)

Group D
Chelsea (ENG)
Porto (POR)
Atletico Madrid (ESP)
APOEL (CYP)

Group E
Liverpool (ENG)
Lyon (FRA)
Fiorentina (ITA)

Debrecen (HUN)

Group F
Barcelona (ESP)
Inter Milan (ITA)

Dynamo Kiev (UKR)
Rubin Kazan (RUS)

Rangers (SCO)
VfB Stuttgart (GER)
Unirea Urziceni (ROM)

Group H
Arsenal (ENG)
AZ Alkmaar (NED)
Olympiakos (GRE)
Standard Liege (BEL)

My tips to make the next round (in blue)

Arsenal get another easy run... Liverpool to have a bad season and to fall over at the first hurdle. Maybe the Spanish and Italian teams can carry the load a bit more this season and not leave 3/4 semi final spots to English teams again....
