Linesmen's flags

Post by First Yellow Card »

In the olden days one linesman would have a red flag and the other a yellow. These days they both hold one made up of the two colors. Why was it changed?
You cannot assault a referee. He stands between the game and chaos.

Imagine a red flag at an AU home game. Does that sort of answer the question?

looks better and is neutral...

plus they have buzzer flags these days so the referee knows which AR is signalling by pressing a button on the flag which sends a buzz to the referee's arm. The buzz for each AR is different so the ref doesnt get confused.

I did and have, for ~3 years :|
It just gave my wallet a buzz, the criticisms, abuse, paperwork and even death threats didn't give me a buzz though (and that was just my wife  ) - jokes aside, not too much fun for me at the time :(
Next time I might try the over 10's age groups

Before there was a fourth official. The assistant with the red flag would take over the match if the ref got injured or couldn't complete the match.
