Under 9 looking for a team - northern suburbs

Post by vertu1 »

my son is looking for a team to play for in
para hills salibury parafield area

preferably where he doesn't have to be a superstar
or he could play in the "b" side if there is one
his has already taken a bit of a battering from being told (at age 8) that he is not good enough for the small sided football team he was in , but he is saying he wants to play again
he just wants to play and have fun , preferably on a big pitch where the kids can run around a bit

so much for ssf being all about fun and involvement,
its actually all about weeding out talent early which is fair enough but just call it what it is, an early elite talent spotting program
its harder to play for the less talented kids , less time on the ball , less room etc and they do less running around
but anyway that's another story

Try Ingle Farm juniors , they have goodt junior development teams. U9 play on 3/4 size pitch ,you wont be playing an a full size pitch utill U10 in E&D (U11 in Feds)
You can find the club contact details on Eliz & District web site.

Sad if true, but you shouldnt compare one club, with the "whole" SSF debate

If you have time, read the SSG topic of 11 pages, interesting reading

Seriously...any club that tells an 8 yr old he is not good enough for ssf should be reported to FFSA, and even named and shamed on here.
By the way I have seen players at 8 who have not been overly talented
go on to be very good footballers at an older age.
I remember one young lad around that age who at the end of the season could hardly kick a ball, by the time the next season came around (with some extra coaching and kicking in the backyard). he was performing tricks and moves that you wouldn't believe. Now a tremendous young player who already has represented the State.
Some people tell me that we professional players are soccer slaves. Well, if this is slavery, give me a life sentence.

surprised any kid playing SSF would be told that he is not good enough its all about development have you taken him out to Raiders they have got SSF out there but Para hills doesnt have SSF not sure if Salisbury united does

An 8 year old being told he's not good enough is disgraceful, almost sickening. The club official who did this does not have a grasp of reality and should stand down or be sacked. This would never happen in the junior ranks of AFL where every kid gets a go and despite these types if incidents soccer is still very popular at the junior level. It doesn't dererve to be.

Agree with most this club shoudl be rported as it is not in the spirit of the SSF concept
to further highlight big macs point

My son during the age groups of 8-11 was always the last player to be picked at trials, but at under 12 he started to enjoy the game he lsitened to caoches etc and since then has risen to be captain of his under16A team you speak to many coachesit is often the players who come up through the ranks as B players that they enjoy coaching because they have learnt to be patient and learnt to listen

Firstly, I also agree with the other posts. And given the amount of push for SSG in younger age groups by FFSA (FFA), if it cannot be resolved at Club level (every Club has someone who goes over the top), then the Club should be reported.

Secondly, Jock... I refute your comment I've highlighted above as I have witnessed it first hand on more than one occasion with AFL Junior Ranks. If you look bigger picture, I think you will find it is the plight of most junior sports! Perhaps a chip on a shoulder may be blinding you.
Who?... Who is but a form, followed by the function of what... And what I am, is a man in a mask!

Hello, I am the coach of Ingle Farm u/9 team, and would love you to give me a call as i have one spot left in my team.
I have over 25 years coaching experience, and would love to see you child smiling and enjoying playing football.
I have no children in the team and coach for the love of the game. Football at this age is all about skill developement and fun, and I assure you, your child will love playing with this team, they are all lovely boys with a great attitude, and very well behaved.
Trainings are tuesday 5.30 til 6.30 and friday 5.30 til 7pm. Cheers

that was a good game, but salisbury and ingle farm seem to always play well against each other. you got 3 boys that show good signs, Amon, Amir? (no10) and the No9 blondie who scored the first goal.

i like the way you coach, and there should be more like you, Andy is very good from salisbury also. Theres no emphasis on winning, its about doing things right. I even noticed a boy muck up, yet there was nothing but encouragement from the coach.

My son is the No9 who scored salisburys first goal. Ill make sure i introduce myself next time.

on a side note, im very interested to see how the boys from EnD compare with the SSF boys at a later date as there is some real talent up north in that comp.!!

Raiders youngsters (u6-u11) coming along very nicely too, but......

we'll never know the comparison though because they're not allowed to play each other in a trial/friendly

The only comparison we can go by is the St Jays Futsal comp where majority of teams are made up of E&D kids, and where all 4 Raiders teams that participated were all in the top 2 in their age group, but the most important thing, played excellent football

ZJ, from u/9 upward, EnD play on a full size pitch, SSF doesnt? am i correct?

by comparisons in mean not playing against each other, what i mean is just technical ability as up until about the age of 13, its all about skills aquasitions.

Yes Purger it was a good game, both teams with kids smiling and enjoying their football.
Salisbury's coach is a real gentleman with the correct attitude for coaching young children.
An absolute pleasure to play against and I look forward to many tight encounters against you guys.
Your youngster looked pretty impressive ( quick little fellow), along with a couple of his team mates,
I wish you well for the season and look forward to meeting you.

Correct

Then the futsal at St Jays comp should give some sort of indication, where futsal is mostly about technical ability

i think you have him confused with either the no.11 (jackson) or the no.7 (remmie) my boy played at the back for most of the game and inst little compared to most of the team! either way, all the best!

cheers for the replies and messages , my son now plays for Ingle Farm and is enjoying playing the game again.

I would just like to personally thank the coach and all those involved with Ingle Farm under 9's. They could not have been more accommodating towards my son . The atmosphere in the team and the attitude of all the players, regardless of ability, is a credit to the way they are coached.

thanks again ...

Hey Vertu good choice , as I said in my previous post Ingle Farm do have a great set up for juniors. My son was there for 4 years from U7 - U10 before moving to Feds this year, some good people doing some great things ther .
Best of luck.

Zeljko Jurin wrote:Is he playing on a BIG pitch ??

How many touches does he get a game ??
answers

1) yes and the extra running is good for him , he has spatial awareness issues and the extra space gives him more time and options, rather than shuffling around a basketball court size ssf pitch and being panicked into doing something quickly all the time

2) as many as he got in ssf , and more to the point , it doesn't matter anyway , HE IS ENJOYING IT
he is not ever going to be (and doesn't have to be) a superstar so enjoying himself is paramount

imo ssf is for the elite kids to get even better more quickly by doing everything in a confined space and limited time
and that's great for fast tracking them , but they should make it that only elite kids are playing it.
From what i have seen, ssf allows the elite kids to score many more meaningless goals against the inferior players , to a point where scoring goals for some kids is so run of the mill that they hardly celebrate , "got another 5 today dad" "ho hum"
if that is good for them then so be it , personally i think doing it on a bigger pitch or against only other elite players may be more of a challenge for them

for the kids who want to just have a good run around and have fun the big pitch is much better , but that's just my opinion
and if my son was to score just 1 goal it would make his whole season , the look on his face would be priceless
it would be worth way more than any elite kids 100 meaningless goals in ssf
i look forward to it..

Vertu , your spot on as long as the kids enjoy the game. I’ve been on both sides of the fence , and yes the SSG does improve your ball skill , were as playing 11 players on normal size pitch improves players passing & positioning.

Not all kids will develop and play soccer through to there adolescence , there has to be a solution for kids with differing soccer abilities.
Hope he bangs a goal in this year.... I had a player score his first goal ever in U10 last year , it was gold.. :D :D

PLEEEEEESE don’t turn this into SSG v large pitch debate, as I said as long as your child is enjoying playing soccer it doesn’t matter.
