Gunner,
If you do a quick search on the keyword "payment" on the amateur forum, you'll find plenty on this.

Re: Player Payments
I know as a fact that clubs from Saturday Div 1 and Sunday Div 1-3 provide payments for players.
It was reported on here that last year one club paid players in Saturday Div 2. This wouldn't surprise me.

Re: Player Payments
i dont understand why ppl make a big issue over this, good luck to those players that do get paid and those clubs that can afford to pay them. Then you would see players playing even harder than what they used to because of the mentality that "if they dont play well they wont get paid."
Re: Player Payments
I don't have a problem with players being paid, per se, as if the club is in the position to do so then they must be doing something right behind the scenes and can reap the benefits (or otherwise) of what they have sewn.Maradona-10 wrote:i dont understand why ppl make a big issue over this, good luck to those players that do get paid and those clubs that can afford to pay them. The issue for me is if that any of the players are getting paid more than $99 a week it:
a) is illegal if they don't declare it as income to the ATO; (not my business, I know) and,
b) breaches SAASL competition rules.

Re: Player Payments
Reality kicks in though when you think of all the tradies who accept cash payments and all the consumers who ask for the cash price. None of that is been declared to the ATO either.Kitchimo wrote:I don't have a problem with players being paid, per se, as if the club is in the position to do so then they must be doing something right behind the scenes and can reap the benefits (or otherwise) of what they have sewn.Maradona-10 wrote:i dont understand why ppl make a big issue over this, good luck to those players that do get paid and those clubs that can afford to pay them. As for point b, it may breach the rule but how do you prove it. Club X isn't going to go, Opps, we've been paying Joe Bloggs $120 per week, we better tell the league.
Re: Player Payments
who wouldn't take money if the club offered it to em...thing is, it aint everything...some clubs just do beer cards etc and that works well too

Re: Player Payments
Of course not.
I think the point I was trying to make is that some clubs knowingly and deliberately breach league rules.

While on the topic of breaching rules, do clubs need licenses to sell food and liquor in SA?

Re: Player Payments
This is why I have argued previously on this forum that the SAASL remove the restriction on payment amounts (at the end of the day, it is impossible to police), and implement a point system similar in principle to what is active in the SAAFL and the NBL.

For the food i wouldn't think so because they aren't advertising the product. Imagine if they needed a license to sell sausages and onions ohh god. lol i could be wrong tho :SFranco UnAmerican wrote:While on the topic of breaching rules, do clubs need licenses to sell food and liquor in SA?

Re: Player Payments
Speaking on behalf of a team that doesnt (to date) pay players. I must admit it sets a dangerous precedent. Determining who is paid and how much, who knows etc.
We did explore paying players this season (in line with expense re-imbursement i.e. travel). We were looking at aquiring some new talent to our club. However, we found that those we approached the money wasnt enough. - go figure!
We thought somewhere circa $120 - $160 a week would be attractive.
Clearly we were way off the mark.
Hence now we have quelled the idea.

WHY DO THEY CALL IT OVALTINE? I MEAN ITS ROUND, WHY DONT THEY CALL IT ROUNDTINE.
Re: Player Payments
That is a lot of money for div2. I could honestly say majority (70%) of players in div1 wouldnt be on that much. Top bracket players are an exception i would say. Someone can correct me if i'm wrong.....BeogradGeneralsC's wrote:Speaking on behalf of a team that doesnt (to date) pay players. I must admit it sets a dangerous precedent. Re: Player Payments
Given that we didnt know what goes on with payments/reimbursements, this is what we explored. You may say its very reasonable, whilst we have evidence to the contrary. We have players at our club who are worthy of payment yes. However, once we explored the ramifications of paying/reimbursing players in light of our initial offering of $120-$160 we got no where, so we decided not to act on it any further.
Re: Player Payments
I'd say you would be better of giving 6 players who are there and want to be there $30-40 a week to stay at the club, for petrol money and beers after trainings etc. Create a freindly atmosphere off the field and hope that will attract players that way. IMO, no point giving 1 or 2 guys $150 per game that have just come in for the money and will leave if the club doesnt move forward.BeogradGeneralsC's wrote:Given that we didnt know what goes on with payments/reimbursements, this is what we explored. Re: Player Payments
East Boy. I couldn't agree with you more on this. Having a couple of "Marquee" players on big $$ can get you promoted (as long as they and everyone else stay healthy). However, then once up there, players will start looking at payment/reimbursement. This is when it gets financially dangerous, especially if you cant get the sponsors.East Boy wrote:I'd say you would be better of giving 6 players who are there and want to be there $30-40 a week to stay at the club, for petrol money and beers after trainings etc. Create a freindly atmosphere off the field and hope that will attract players that way. However Div I tends to be big business these days, the good players want $$$ and there are the clubs willing and able to pay the dollars. If $120 - $160 isnt enough i wonder what is!

Re: Player Payments
Can I ask were you looking at paying them that amount each week or on the basis of when the team win??
I guess each club is different in what they reward their players with for a win? if anything at all?

Re: Player Payments
LOL... well Banya... maybe we are asking teh wrong players. I guess we asked players who we saw would be a good fit to the club, have some influence on the field, and may inspire others to join. However, it was very targetted and not at all publicised. However, our efforts were in vein, and as a result, the club moved away from the idea.BANYA wrote:That's bottle of shiraz Attractive, trust me. Re: Player Payments
to keep thing simple we explored a flat rate. This was really up for a little negotiation as well should the ones approached be at all interested. However, the amount didnt end up being of interest so we moved on. I must clarify, these players are playing in the SAASL with other clubs now too... so its not like we approached Any A-leaguers or even State/Premier/Super leaguers.on the side wrote:Can I ask were you looking at paying them that amount each week or on the basis of when the team win??
