New shin pad rule

We had a ref on Sunday who came around to all of our players and unless they were wearing 'shields' on their shins, he said once the season starts you will not be able to play in the game.
Apparently the laws (not sure if its only amateur) have never stated what constitues suitable protection, but now they have stated something about the shin pad must come up to 2cm below the knee and i cant remember how close to the ankle/foot.

Anyone else heard this one? Apparently everyone will be getting a letter explaining the new rules.

Personally, I hate the massive shinny's and im sure many others do too.
Surely its got to be up to the individual (same as say, a mouth guard)

Can vouch for that being true.....also have seen a player manufacture a pair of shin pads on game day using ripped up cardboard box !

No there is no mention of Not wearing shin pads, but the fact that they will have to be the massive shinny's that cover all of you shin. Instead of the smaller, kid size ones that most people wear.

i know a lot of the united boys wear foam cutouts as their shin pads. I for one hatew the things they barely protect u anyway

I would suggest this ref was just being a grenache.

Our ref last week was clamping down on different coloured "skins" under shorts. Didn't care that it was a reserves pre season game, just that if he was assessed then he's be marked down. Then allowed the opposition to have 3 - number 4's on the pitch and wearing mismatching kit.

Apparently tough, the different coloured "undershorts" will be clamped down on this season.

No, a few lads back at Elizabeth Downs in the 70's.....but cardboard boxes were stronger back then !

I was always an advocate of a bigger shin pad...and training with them on so that game day felt the same...used to wear a cricketer's type box in goals as well due tor having to undergo exploratory surgery after a cup game against Seaford in 1982.

your secretary should have the full regulations as sent out by saasra.

BUT

shinguards should cover the length of your leg, from ankle to knee minus one or two centimetres at each end.

so they have confused people with the offside rule, slide tackle rule, handball rule, and now, they want to add the shin pad rule to that as well ?

should they try and get the first 3 right before they worry about shinpads, ( as long as they are wearing some)
Technology has changed so much now, where you dont even know you have them on, compared to 20/ 30 years ago, was like having a novel in your socks, and the type of socks has changed as well, makes it easier to wear shin pads.
Saw someone in a trial game ( yesterday )not wearing any, ( if he was they were about the size of a small notepad )socks down ? Good player, except did not go in for any 50/50 tackles ?
