Good wins by England and Rumania, nice upset by Albania away to Portugal and nice work by Poland to win 7-0 away from home, albeit to Gibraltar?? When did they let them in?

I think the Poles were let in to UEFA in 1955Bomber wrote:No comments to date.

Dixie Dean was hailed by another Mersey legend, Liverpool’s Bill Shankly, as “belonging in the company of the supremely great, like Beethoven, Rembrandt and Shakespeare.”
60 goals, never to be equalled.

Gibraltar trying to break away from British rule, similar to what Scotland is voting on in the 18 September referendum about independence, I sort of believe...Bomber wrote:No comments to date.

Re: Euro qualifiers
Don't know where you got that one from. Under the Treaty of Utrecht, Gibraltar belongs solely to the British and any form of independence would need to be ratified by Spain, something they would never do since they claim sovereignty. As a side note, it's somewhat hypocritical of the Spanish to claim sovereignty over Gib, whilst at the same time denying independence to Catalunya.Con M wrote:Gibraltar trying to break away from British rule, similar to what Scotland is voting on in the 18 September referendum about independence, I sort of believe...Bomber wrote:No comments to date.

On the subject of football, a good win by England, but those who are claiming Welbeck as some sort of striking hero need their eyes tested. Whilst I understand that strikers can only score if they're in the right place, he ran around like a headless chook for most of the game, mucked up the easiest pass of the night to Sterling, shinned his first goal and had a virtual gift for the second.
Sterling on the other hand, looked quality.

Sterling real quality, however Wilshire struggled again.

This wouldn't be the same Danny Welbeck that chose the Gunners over the Spuds by any chance
Franco Baldini feeling Levy's wrath as we speak, another scapegoat for the chop perhaps.

Re: Euro qualifiers
Heard on the BBC World Service that Gibraltar had only just been approved last month to enter the European qualifiers after the objections from Spain were finally dismissed by EUFA's & FIFA's hierarchy.

So how many divs in the Gibraltan league? Imagine, being virtually (a part of) world champions one minute, absolute rabble the next.Old Master wrote:Heard on the BBC World Service that Gibraltar had only just been approved last month to enter the European qualifiers after the objections from Spain were finally dismissed by EUFA's & FIFA's hierarchy.

The 442 with a diamond made the attacking side look better than in Brazil.Nice One Cyril wrote:Don't know where you got that one from. I think the biggest weak link in the England team is the back four.
RB: Stones: Young player . did well considering played out of position. Maybe Dier from Spurs.
CB: Jones: Had a poor game , however worth a long run, due to lack of choices. If Chambers get game time at Arsenal worth a try.
Cahill: Class player , has to start every game.
Baines: Jury out. Fully fit Gibbs and Shaw should be considered here.
Other question is whether Wilshire can play DM?
Re: Euro qualifiers
In fairness these players were as much part of the World Champions as you/we are the Socceroos.Bomber wrote:So how many divs in the Gibraltan league? Why would you play a creative dynamic player like him in that role when you have workhorses like Henderson and Milner?ozzie owl wrote:Other question is whether Wilshire can play DM?

I agree what about Carrick and Barry both better suited than Wlishire for the role?Old Redback wrote:Why would you play a creative dynamic player like him in that role when you have workhorses like Henderson and Milner?ozzie owl wrote:Other question is whether Wilshire can play DM?
Re: Euro qualifiers
I think that position may suit him.
The days of having an old fashioned destroyer as your pivot in midfield are almost over.
That central role now suits someone very good on the ball who can dictate the attack from deep.
Two infront of the pivot need to have high energy to be box to box and cover space in the channels.
Might work.

How were they ever part of world champions? Unfortunately, been quite a few years since they could claim that.

Re: Euro qualifiers
I just looked up about Gibraltar. Interestingly they took part in the 2006 FIFI Wild Cup but they lost in the semis to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
