Have they found out what was actually said?

The claims are that they were calling him Shiraz. (That is not the swear fliter).
If thats the case its mild but i get they have to protect the players from all forms of abuse. I agree with the actions of the stadium and police in this matter.
Mild racism is still racism though.

Paine acting like a muppet again.

Funny to see him act like that and then almost immediately drop a catch.

If the ICC is serious about player behaviour time to introduce suspensions and Paine should be the first . Fining players a match payment are waste of time given how much they earn .

Smith on camera as well trying to remove Pant's guard.

Not sure if that breaks any laws but certainly not within the spirit of the game.

Lyon - overrated
Paine - needs a (permanent) rest anyway - Carey should be keeper, not sure about captaincy, but changes needed, including Wade out, Head back in.

Despite his run of low scores the injury to Pucovski may save him. If Pucovski is out then I would bring Harris as opener and replace Wade with Travis Head.

It’s the aussie kiddies I feel sorry for, all they want is a hero to be able to look up to but little smithy keeps on letting them down. Look once Langer, a man of his word, has condemned this appalling behaviour and taken the necessary action maybe we can all move on, ban him till at least Feb 2022 would be fair I reckon.

When it comes to racism, the worst I ever heard was Adelaide Oval (the hill) in the 70's and 80's whenever West Indies were playing. No wonder they bowled so devastatingly fast. Today, the entire hill would have been ejected

a little like the Indian team replacing an 'injured' keeper with a better gloveman but when it was time to bat in the 2nd innings, the 'injured' keeper who is the better batsman was OK to bat.....

Which is completely within the laws.

No different to Smith pretending to be confused after injuring his hand.

Look up the law, it's there in black and white.

Law 41.12.1 <truncated>
A fielder will be deemed to be causing avoidable damage if either umpire considers that his/her presence on the pitch is without reasonable cause.

Did either umpire consider his presence on the pitch to be problematic? All we've heard is trial by social media.

If they did, did we see Law 41.12.2 occur?

41.12.2 If a fielder causes avoidable damage to the pitch, other than as in 41.13.1, at the first instance the umpire seeing the contravention shall, when the ball is dead, inform the other umpire. The bowler’s end umpire shall then
- caution the captain of the fielding side and indicate that this is a first and final warning. This warning shall apply throughout the innings.
- inform the batsmen of what has occurred.

It would appear to me that they didn't warn the Aussies nor inform the batsmen, and as such, no Law was infringed.

This is ignoring that the "protected zone" excludes the popping crease anyway.

Edit: Was it reported to the Governing Body? Because, again, the reason it's being talked about it because of the vision from social media. If it was in the match report, the media would have picked it up sooner.

41.2.1.3 The umpires together shall report the incident as soon as possible after the match to the Executive of the offending side and to any Governing Body responsible for the match, who shall take such action as is considered appropriate against the captain, any other individuals concerned and, if appropriate, the team.

To me, it wasn't a good look but was intrigued when people were saying he did this a lot in the past. So why the hoo-ha now?
Bottom line, Smith will always be scarred from the sandpaper incident, so this looks little more than a misdemeanor if anything, but will be noted on his rap sheet.

This part of the law is not linked to the "protected area".

It was during a drinks break, did the umpires even see it. We don't know if the aussiie umpires noticed it or reported it?

Laws are broken even if the umpires don't see it or punish it.

If the Law requires a judgement by an umpire, and an umpire doesn't make a judgement, then the Law isn't broken.
