NEW SAASL Registration Process
What are everyone's thoughts on the new process for registering players with the SAASL? Interesting now that the players are required to register themselves!
Re: NEW SAASL Registration Process
Think it's terrible to implement it without consultation of clubs voted in at an AGM. They really need to look at how their junior counterpart operates and implement a council of clubs.
We charge our players a fee that is set in October and some start paying then they fill out and register details with the club that fee takes into account saasl fees so if we used this method we would have to change all of that. What about those players in higher diva who pay nothing?
Also majority of the players are already on the system from last season so why do they need to be entered again.
Would rather pay in bulk and tick the profiles that we need to register against our club/transfer in and add the new ones same as last year. The way it's worded sounds like we are going to have to do 70 payments on my personal card to register everyone then reimburse.
Clubs struggled last year simply entering results and squads you would of thought that this should be solidified before addding more complexity I am sure it will lead to similar problems as per last year of clubs not having their cards in time.

Re: NEW SAASL Registration Process
Our club is still going to do it on behalf of the players. At least that way the club knows who has registered and who hasn't.
Leaving it up to the players will mean people playing unregistered

Re: NEW SAASL Registration Process
Sounds sensible.
Players can't organise their own water for training or game day, sunscreen or tape for socks etc so chances of them registering themselves etc is a bit too much

lol agree, but they dont make it easy. The letter talks about setting up an email address for each player when you register. sounds a bit fraudulent to me. And how workable is setting up 60 email addresses! Or have i interpreted the letter incorrectly?Forest T Hairy wrote:Sounds sensible.

If anyone missed it here is the letter:

The Chairmen/Secretaries
All SAASL Clubs Good Afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen
Ref:- Up date on Registration Procedures 2017
Following on from our e-mail last Friday
We outline below the basic process for online registration for SAASL Players.
Please Note: The following process is only for the SAASL registration fee of $40:00
The Club will continue to manage their own membership fees as normal,
this system is supporting the standard $40:00 registration fee for season 2017.
There will be two ways which your players will be able to register on line:
From your administrative LOG IN to Resultsvault, There will be a unique URL (More instructions to follow when the system go's live) you send out your data base for players to simply click through, and follow the steps on line. They will need to provide an e-mail address, to provide standard information and pay on line with a Debit/Credit.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
We have received correspondence from some clubs suggesting players do not currently hold an e-mail address. A suggestion put forward was to use a generic club e-mail address and apply on line on the players behalf. There are longer term (and administrative constraints and time considerations) to consider.
For those players who do not currently have an e-mail address that can be used to register on line, our strong recommendation is the following. If a player suggests that do not have an e-mail address, or that they have no access to set up a free e-mail account (Gmail or Hotmail as an example), then the clubs should do this on behalf of the players’ and us that unique player e-mail to register on their behalf (eg:tomsmith1@gmail.com) as opposed to using a generic club e-mail for the following reasons.
1. If multiple registrations are used with same e-mail address, the club administrator will be inundated with notifications and e-mails, and the time spent to work who the notifications is for will be incredibly time consuming.
2. For future considerations a player not having a unique e-mail address will restrict them from activating unique participant account on our system, eg: having the ability to look up their own stats, payment information, alter their contact details, and more importantly, with the view that in the long term, potentially bringing identification more to an online space, that ability for a player to have their e-mail participant account will be important. Therefore;
3. The time spent now creating a unique e-mail for players will SAVE YOU TIME in the long run, and lots of it- we understand you volunteer your time and it is precious, hence recommending this process NOW.
4. If the player does not hold a debit/credit card they can use on line, that is something you can manage with your players at club level (eg: use the club card and the player reimbursed you) But the e-mail is the most important component to provide.
There is no further administration required at club level aside from the e-mails getting sorted.
the online forms will be created at SAASL level , and be a standard set of questions players must complete
to become registered. Based on successful completion of the registration on line, the SAASL will begin the
process producing the player I/D card and advise clubs when they are ready to be picked from our office.
We anticipate that this will available on line within 10days and we will advise clubs as soon as it becomes
available and we will provide more detailed instructions at that time.

They are actually making the process easier by making each player register themselves rather than having a person from each club having to register every player.
All they are saying is that the email address is the unique identifier for the database.
So if you want to do the work and register multiple players from your club, just make sure you use their email addresses when you do.
Simple.

Re: NEW SAASL Registration Process
Yes this would work as per normal and isnt much of a issue. As long as we can pay in bulk at a club level, if we are having to get a visa card - that the club doesnt have so would need to be a personal one and then do 50-70 transactions, rather than the 1 cheque/eft we would normally do it adds a lot of extra work.danmccaff wrote:What human do you know that doesn't have an email address?Baresi wrote:lol agree, but they dont make it easy. Re: NEW SAASL Registration Process
Read the information again, you can not do that anymore, the system has now changed, each player must register themselves. It is not that hard really.Yes this would work as per normal and isnt much of a issue. If people can figure out how to post their winging comments on this forum, then they should be able to fill in a webform to pay their fees to the league.

How many are aged under 40 though? I can't imagine any millenial not having an email address - even if it's just to get their centre link payments.Asahara Shōkō wrote:I actually know quite a few.danmccaff wrote:

Not really. If players are left to do this it will be a bigger disaster.
Ill wait to see what its like when registration finally opens.

Re: NEW SAASL Registration Process
Player Registration will commence on the 1st March 2017
The old style registration forms will no longer be required and have been withdrawn from the website.
The following will now take the place of the Registration forms
It will require clubs or players to fill in a new form (for all players Old & New) which we are advised is simple and quick to complete and includes all players at the same time the advised Registration fee $40:00 p/p must be paid if the registration is not paid the registration will not be completed and the player will not be registered
We will still require photographs for new player registrations. the forms for new registrations can be found on ResultsVault under "add a new Player" When complete Note the 6 digit I/D number on the back of the Photograph together with the players name and forward to the League. "or" the photograph can be scanned and e-mailed to the League noting both the I/D No. and players Name..
" this is the preferred method"
There is still a requirement for all players to have an e-mail address though some clubs are proposing to use the clubs e-mail address or maybe a generic address ie:- Hotmail or Gmail for each player. the reasons for this were explained in our last e-mail.
If you have further questions as we get closer please contact the League and we will endeavour to assist.

Re: NEW SAASL Registration Process
Its good the SAASL are heading in the right direction with online registration and yes there will be small hic ups .. Not having an email address. That should be easy to overcome ... The only concern is not everyone having a credit card or debit credit card....
Online registration with the FFSA is simple and very effective.. days of faxing forms are long gone .. The benefit is the club does get billed and then paid at a later date. Therefore credit card isnt required.
How about embrace the idea of online registration .

Re: NEW SAASL Registration Process
I don't have a problem with online registration but these things need to be sorted a lot earlier and not bit part payments being paid here and there. Registration opens 4 weeks before the start of season which is not good enough, our girls team with the ffsa are already registered and they give the clubs the option of paying online or thru clubs which is a far better systembloodypassit wrote:Its good the SAASL are heading in the right direction with online registration and yes there will be small hic ups .. I can see that all players have been removed, just leaving officials i.e. coach/team manager names in the system.
To All Clubs,
Please be advised that we intend to have Registrations Open this afternoon, Wednesday 1st March.
We are in the final stages of having all at the ready, watch this space, an official announcement will be made this afternoon with all relevant details.
Thank you,

Re: NEW SAASL Registration Process
The good thing about gmail is you can customise email addresses after your root username.
So you can have "clubinthecity@gmail.com" and then set up each player on this rego thing as "clubinthecity+JamesBattersby@gmail.com", then "clubinthecity+MichaelSmith@gmail.com" and they come to the same mailbox.
By using the +name, it's easy to filter for the recipients.

Re: NEW SAASL Registration Process
To All Clubs,
Thank you for your patience in relation to our Registration process for this season.
We will be releasing the Registration Online at 2:30pm tomorrow for all players to register.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Please check your player records in ResultsVault and ENSURE each player that you intend to have registered has an email address against their record.
Ideally, it will be their personal email address, as it will streamline recovery of passwords, access to their personal details in the future and more features that will be coming in time for Participants.
If your player/s do not have an email / access to email, then it is imperative there is at least AN email against their record, and given recent conversations, this may well be the club email. We can only stress again this is a last resort, but if it must be, then enter the club email.
The process for your players to sign up online - this will be published tomorrow along with the club listings on the website where the players can click through and register to your club. (these instructions can only be followed after 2:30pm when registrations open).
Thank you and further detail will be published on the website tomorrow when the Registrations are open online.
Kind Regards
Bill Bailey
