Personally cant see the issue with juniors funding seniors if that happens to any extent .. yeah clubs should be about developing players but at the end of the day it is the senior first team that the club is about and where the kids would be aspiring to be ... assume it takes a lot of $$ to keep successful top league clubs afloat .. its the nature of the beast world wide players are paid a lot more than in the past so really it all becomes relative.

Also wouldn't of had all the liabilities, insurances FFA FFSA requirements in the past that are part of the system in place today.

How many kids at clubs regularly go and support the first team?? not many!! if more got behind the club in that way maybe fees wouldn't need to be as high .. kids want to be at relatively elite level clubs and so that would come at a necessary cost as it would cost a lot more to run an elite level cub in comparison to an lower level club that may have juniors.

Also have seen so many times players both at junior and those coming into the senior levels ie U18s etc who are stereotyped as being from lower socio-economic back grounds and cant or don't pay fees .. yet rock up in football boots that cost $400+ !!

Shoot goal

My first pair of boots bought in 1968 were Adidas leather.
Bought from a Sports Store in the city of Adelaide on the corner of King William Street and Grenfell St.
CIBO is there now.
My second pair were from Kmart at Kurralta Park.
After that I use to buy my boots from Bailletti from saved up lunch money.
As my first Adidas blue Track Suit, from Bailletti.

Something definitely has to change with the fees,i had a lot of friends over the years whose children chose to play AFL,or girls netball over football(soccer) because of the massive fees.Basketball is in the same position also,if you want to play in a higher div team,you have to fork our for at least 2 interstate tournaments a year which will set you back around $2000!

Only answer is - install a salary cap for all seniors - no more than $50k a year but actually enforce it (good luck with that) and all juniors to wear hand-me-down strips on match day only and buy own shorts, socks, trackies etc like we had in the "good old JD days" - train once a week wherever you can find a patch of grass and do a lot of ground sharing.
Has merit, but I thought we have moved on a bit in society and given the sport a bit more cred. The key is now to keep a lid on it before it spirals out of control. The "big" clubs are the most likely to let this happen, so until attitudes change across the board and as a whole, it will keep going like it is.

You know what JD, there are club volunteers who basically run their health down, spend 30 hours a week volunteering at their club because only a handful of people want to help out, and you now want free playing fees.

How is the bloody volunteer going to cover all the costs to put a player on the park.

Are Referees going to do it for free?

Is the council going to pay for all the electricity, water, waste costs?

Who is going to pay for uniforms?

How does a volunteer who has a full time job, go out and find $300,000 is sponsorship to cover all costs?

There are volunteers bleeding at clubs because no one else wants to help. they are first to criticise, and last to put up their hand to help. I have seen volunteers end up in hospital because they are run down stressed from running soccer clubs.

I don't know the answer but to those out there in club land, how are the junior fees for migrant eg African, Asian paid? There are many out there and some with real quality. Do clubs forgo fees and the slack made up by paying juniors.

There are government concessions to support these types of players, along with grants by local councils and government.

But a club cant get 200 concessions for all their players so they can cover the whole 200 players.

Show me evidence that a kid has missed out on playing our game?

There is club football, local district football and even school football.

No kid out there has ever missed out on playing our game. Its a cop out people use.

Mate they should pay their fees like everyone else and most of them do - there is plenty of money provided them and as I mentioned have seen boys that haven't paid fees but still have $400+ Boots

Volunteers were mentioned earlier.

I have refereed, run the line (which saw me physically abused by an opposition coach) assisted the coach on match day and training. I will do whatever my son's coach needs me to do.

However, with the fees charged I do begrudge helping out the club and not the team.
