Have to agree with that, love how Collingwood suddenly supporters complain about the cost to fly to Sydney for the Preliminary Finals but ignore this has been happening to interstate sides for ages.

So, its grand final eve, and another "racism" scandal hits the AFL, and particularly Hawthorn and their coaching hierarchy from many years ago.

Questions:

Why come out now?

Does anyone really think the accused would "advise" someone to coerce a pregnancy termination because it may affect their partner's game? Obviously we, the public, will not know the truth and of course if it did happen in the context reported, then it's a no brainer - it's terrible and sackings will surely follow. Just seems a bit far-fetched to be kept silent for so long.

But if untrue, will Clarko & Fagan sue the pants off the person/s making the claims, or does that only create more fire and division? I know I would given the enormity of the accusation.

Why is it the sports that virtue signal so much (indigenous rounds, gay pride rounds) seem to fall on their own sword in these areas so often?

Good point made the other day re Brownlow night - venue a casino (but don't gamble on games, but we will take your sponsorship money) - booze everywhere (but soon as a player nicks off to Bali or wherever, he is smashed for being pissed and playing up a bit whilst on holiday).

Anyway, go Swans! ;-)

It's grand final week - best time to get the most publicity out of this.
Personally I don't fully believe all the initial reports, but I also don't think it's rubbish so the real truth is somewhere in-between.
For me it doesn't taint their premierships (like others have claimed) but it sure stains the hell out of Clarko and Fagan if some of this stuff gets verified.
Not only that it directly affects Brisbane and NM as well so a fair bit to play out here

would it have anything to do with someone within the indigenous community getting upset because the Queen and royals were getting all the publicity during indigenous round ?
seems every year the media/afl like to bring up negative and controversial stories on the biggest week of the year, why do they do that to themselves ?

So Clarkson has gone from “it didn’t happen” to “I have different recollections”. Interesting.

Not defending him, as I obviously don't know what transpired but believe he is due fair process at the very least. Or do we just take the word of people who are "first nations" as gospel, regardless?
Alleged incident/s occurred many years ago, so "interesting" that it comes out now.

As Frank Costanza said, the truth is probably somewhere in between.

There's an idea. Get all parties involved in publicly aired polygraph tests. Would rate well. ;-)

Hawthorn conducted a player welfare review with its past and current First Nations players, once the review was completed the club realised the information gathered was more damning then initially thought and passed it on to the AFL integrity dept. Somehow the review was leaked (surprise surprise ).

Jeff Kennett for once has been very quiet since the release of this review...maybe he doesn't want to declare he still has a large collection of golliwogs which he stated few years back...

Bottom line, it's Hawthorn, so good to get the spotlight off Essendon for a while. ;-)

Still hate trial by media (before all investigations are complete and all sides get a fair hearing). Very messy and the AFL, despite all their posturing, seem to have ballsed things up once again.

IF the allegations are judged to be substantially true then a precedent already exists for determining the penalty the AFL will hand out for AFL officials found guilty of racist slurs and conduct.

IN June 2013, after the Adam Goodes on-field vilification saga, Eddie McGuire made on air comparison of Indigenous player Adam Goodes to the mythical gorilla King Kong:

'Get Adam Goodes down for it. You know the whole ape thing, the whole thing...'

Then AFL President Demetriou said the AFL would not impose any sanctions on his mate Eddie because 'He's punishing himself...It's unfortunate, and I'm glad he's apologised'.

So no sanctions for a racist slur by an AFL Club president delivered on-air!

There's your precedent.

Oh - and the usual 'sincere regrets' and 'we must do better' from the men at the top of course.

But woe betide any spectator daring to call an AFL umpire a bald headed flog. The AFL will ban them for life!

Egan played 125 games for the Tigers from 1982-1989, and now manages Binmada, a consultancy for Education, Organisation and Community Development. He was also part of the Korin Gamadji Institute as NAIDOC Coordinator, supporting the partnership between the KGI, VicHealth and the Victorian NAIDOC Football and Netball Committee.
